IT SERVICES AND INFRASTRUCTURE
The School’s systems are delivered on a variety of operating system platforms, choosing the
platform best suited to the application in question. File, print and email services are currently
delivered using a Novell environment, with migration to Office 365 for collaboration and email
tools well underway. Most external-facing and network security/management systems are
provided internally with cloud based alternatives being considered as systems are updated
The School’s Virtual Learning Environment is comprised of Moodle and Blackboard Collaborate,
platforms shared with four other Bloomsbury Institutions. They are used extensively both by
London-based and Distance Learning programs.
There are in the region of 1500 networked PCs at the School, a mix of Windows desktops, with a
small community of Macintosh and Linux users.
The School’s network infrastructure, across four sites in Bloomsbury, provides a Gigabit Ethernet
backbone over fibre-optic cable, through University College London
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
The School’s IT teams have recently undergone a reorganisation; the faculty teams have been
conjoined with the central IT teams to form a new department and Helpdesk. The premise for
support to the School is “centrally managed and locally delivered” using an IT partner model.
The IT Partner analyses, determines and delivers IT requirements in acting as a business partner
to meet the needs of faculties/departments and to ensure they are supported.
The role holder liaises with Faculty and IT development, networks, security, project and support
functions to ensure that all the requirements of the faculty are being met.
In conjunction with the faculty leadership team, s/he develops the faculty IT strategy and aligns
it with the central IT strategy
The role holder works with IT partners across the School to deliver a joined up, efficient and
effective IT service.
Your role will be a mix of horizon scanning, projects, support and stakeholder management; you
will be covering a wide range of activities and meeting a wide range of people. It is essential that
the you can span operational and strategic needs, covering all aspects of IT in the School.
As part of Change Management, it is expected that your office hours will normally be eight hours
somewhere between 8:30am-5:30pm, though out of hours’ work may occasionally be necessary
during busy periods and major upgrades.
Responsibilities
1. Lead the consultancy to the faculties/departments in relation to IS strategies, developments
and operations

2. Oversee/lead detailed analysis of end to end business requirements across the
faculty/department
3. Measure the quality of the ITS management service delivered to the faculties/departments
4. Manage and communicate service and development plans
5. Lead the production of business design specifications for agreed business requirements
6. Ensure the needs of faculty/department management are met through relationships both
internal and external.
7. Lead and develop individuals to deliver business and personal objectives
8. Actively engage with faculties/departments to ensure that continual improvement is
delivered through innovation where possible
9. Promote and lead positive change
10. To scope and manage small projects and changes within the School ensuring alignment with
IT strategy
11. Provide line management for Project Analyst through clear direction, control, training and
coaching.
12. Provide task management and support for secondary support activities, coaching and training
ITSO and CSO staff as appropriate
13. Ensure all centrally agreed policies, procedures and governance are delivered consistently
across the faculties
14. Work with ITS colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to all ITS activity
15. Undertake any other duties as reasonably delegated by your line manager
16. Manage your own continuous professional development, internal collaborations and external
networks, in order to contribute to service quality, research excellence and innovation
