MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: CAREER STUDIES & SERVICES COORDINATOR BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Faculty Director of The Center for Career Studies and Services, plan, organize, coordinate and participate in one or more specialized areas of career services, including experiential education credit courses in up to 60 disciplines. Experiential education includes internship studies and occupational/general cooperative work experience education, or “co-op” courses. Provide specialized information, assistance and academic advisement to students seeking information about careers and/or participation in the district’s experiential education programs. Coordinate all aspects of student preparation for and enrollment in the district’s experiential education programs. Serve as department contact for instructional resources and technical services. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Assess students’ workplace readiness; discuss and model positive work skills and habits; assist students with exploring career interests and occupational choices; develop and teach workshops and classroom presentations in person and/or online as needed or requested; refer students to appropriate workshops, placements, and/or campus or community resources; assist students with preparing and editing career-related materials. Post and publicize experiential education opportunities through a variety of means, including electronic databases used by the Career Center; administer database applications for experiential education; maintain contact information for employers and students interested and/or participating in experiential education opportunities; maintain accurate, timely placement data. (E) 3. Schedule experiential education classes using enrollment software applications; recruit faculty and obtain department and district approval; maintain class rosters; manage drop/add data for all experiential education sections; collect required documentation and instructor grades; enter placement data into database; and maintain all records as required by Title V. Maintain student, faculty, and employer compliance with Title V regulations, course outlines of record, including pre-and co-requisites, district-approved local plan guidelines, and district policies. (E) 5. Procure and maintain inventory of onsite and online instructional resources, including site licenses. Serve as department contact for instructional resources and technical services, including electronic library cataloging system; provide information, training, and assistance to staff, faculty, and students in the use of a variety of career development, course management, and data management applications and resources. (E) 6. Manage and publish instructional resources, including but not limited to syllabi, orientations, and online classes using course management software, in consultation with the Faculty Director. Oversee departmental marketing, including designating staff members to deliver classroom presentations and/or to produce articles and advertisements for department newsletter, campus newspaper, multi-media flat screens, and department web pages. Prepare and disseminate Career Center and program area informational and promotional articles and materials for services and events using a variety of media, including social media; ensure up-to-date program information on the Web and all marketing outlets. (E) 8. Recruit students, faculty, and employers to participate in experiential education programs; advise students regarding program readiness, procedures, and potential placements. 9. Serve as lead coordinator for services and events in program area; support Career Center team members serving as lead; support Career Center-sponsored events through announcements, marketing, and participation. 10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records; compile and report placement, demographic, outcome and other data regarding services provided and populations served. 11. Perform related duties as assigned. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Learn to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures and apply them in a variety of procedural situations. Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer and appropriate software. Advise students regarding experiential education and career exploration and development. Research and analyze employment data, career trends, and occupational information. Determine program needs and request and manage program resources. Maintain records and prepare reports. Perform at a college graduate level or experiential equivalent in the assigned field. Instruct or tutor students effectively. Develop and implement non-credit workshops/seminars and presentations. Read, understand, interpret and apply department or college rules, policies and technical materials relating to assigned field. Plan, schedule, train, and review the work of student assistants. Provide instructional and technical assistance to students regarding the availability and uses of instructional materials, resources, equipment, and technologies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and experience equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and one year closely related work experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver license WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide scheduling and work direction to departmental colleagues regarding marketing and web publications and deadlines. CONTACTS: Departmental coworkers, district staff, students, faculty, employers, the general public, and professional staff at two-and four-year institutions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel to a variety locations on and off campus as needed to conduct District business.
