Children in Reception class make jam using the school Damson trees. October HB. They shared this jam on crackers to all the staff in school and made scones which were sold at Macmillan Coffee morning. Biodiversity Year 4 children to spend an afternoon each month outside looking at the living things in the environment including plants, mini beasts and wildlife. Children to record these in nature journals. This links to their Science unit – Living things and their habitats. Through discussions and looking at the nature journals, see what children have discovered. Living things in their environment Ongoing throughout 2015-2016 KS, Year 4 children All children to take part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. To identify different species of birds in our school grounds and identify ways we can attract more birds by improving our own ecosystem. 4 January to 12 February 2016. KS KS get resources for classes beforehand. Less energy being used. Ongoing Whole school continue to reduce the amount of unnecessary electricity usage in the classrooms. Eco-Council to discuss results after 1 month to see the difference. Encourage own classes to turn lights off etc. Trophy given to winning class each week. Put class on the certificate to acknowledge their effort. To educate the children about responsible energy use and why this is important. Pupils to be more energy conscious in school and home via presentations and assemblies. Throughout the year KS Take part in Switch off Fortnight November 16th – 29th. All school community to realise importance of switching off components and not just leaving them on standby but not only for the fortnight. All classes and children are aware of using paper bin in classroom rather than normal bin. All classrooms have 2 bins provided. Eco-Council to speak with children in classes about importance of reusing paper – se two sides not one, reuse for scrap paper. January 2016 Eco-Council Whole school to take part in Waste Week.
