FRIENDS OF ELYRIA PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM BOARD MEETING
December 3, 2015
PRESENT: Nancy Baldauf, Cherie Fabian, Denise Klammer, Jane Leavell, Phil Lyon,
Tim Widman
Staff: Jen Harmon
Meeting called to order at 6:20 PM.
Jane Coven paid for a $500 lifetime membership.
The library posted thank you’s on the table in the outer room, with pictures of things the
Friends of Elyria Public Library System paid for during the year, like the lawnmower for
West River and the Summer Reading Program.
November Minutes
Tim Widman moved to accept the draft of minutes, and Nancy Baldauf seconded. Motion
passed.
Treasurer’s Reports
We began the month with $25,039.08. We ended with $15,621.73 after we bought the
steel mesh panel and “tree” repairs for West River.
Nancy Baldauf moved to accept the report, and Jane Leavell seconded it. Motion passed.
Director’s Report
Jen Harmon reported that Lyn Crouse is at another meeting.
It will cost $50 for a one year membership for the EPLS in the Lorain County Visitors'
Bureau, This will let library and Friends announce events in Bureau's brochures. We
voted to approve the brochure membership as a gift to the library.
New Business
Annual elections.
Nancy Baldauf is running for president pro-tem for one year. Jane Leavell is running for
secretary for a second three-year term. Cherie Fabian and Phil Lyon are running for
renewal as Board members. Three members returned their letters with checkmarks by the
names of people they were apparently voting for; only one left Cherie unchecked,
perhaps confused by her close proximity to Phil’s name. Tim Widman moved we cast a
unanimous ballot as printed in the Annual Meeting letter sent to all members of Friends.
Denise Klammer seconded. All approved.

If LCCS or Oberlin College has an internship program for something like social
development, could their students attend Board meetings to learn about/help with the
book sale?
Nancy Baldauf moved we offer a $5 membership fee for students from Elyria high
schools or the colleges to attract younger members. Tim seconded it. Jen Harmon will put
that in the next library newsletter, as well as our two openings for new Board members.
All were in favor, and the motion carried.
The next meeting is at 6:30 on January 4th at the Main library.
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 pm to be followed by refreshments and a tour of the West
River branch improvements paid for by FEPLS.
Respectfully submitted by Jane Leavell.
