Purpose: The Transitions Program Specialist interviews and advises adult basic education and English language learner students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements for admission into colleges/universities along with support for life skills needed for student success. The person will ensure students are provided a continuum of services to span adult education instruction to GED graduation to post secondary education and the workforce. He/she will assist students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities, and setting goals. This individual will provide resources such as student information packets, transition guides and recruitment materials. Additionally, they will present academic information to orientation groups and potential students and parents. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of the local Transitions Program Plan for all counties in the service delivery area. Assess and advise students on academic and career issues; identify the educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications (e.g. Accelerated Pathways (Fast Track/Boot Camp), Dual Enrollment, WorkReady Certification). Serve as a liaison between the adult education program, postsecondary education, Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) and community service agencies to provide integrated education and training services (e.g. college tours, job fairs, mentoring, job coaching). Provide training and support to staff members on the integration of the Career Awareness curricula and workplace skills; develops transition materials and resources.
