Dear Parents and Students,
Greetings! We at the Independence High School Falcon Marching Band and Colorguard hope that you are having an enjoyable
time as the school year comes to an end and summer begins. No doubt your student has worked hard all year and is to be
commended on all they have accomplished!
The Marching Band staff at Independence High School has been working EXTREMELY hard getting ready for the 2014
Marching Band Season. We have summer rehearsals beginning soon, and it is ESSENTIAL that all students attend as many
summer rehearsals as possible. In addition, band camp is REQUIRED for all students who wish to participate in the 2014
Marching Band Season. All rehearsals will begin in room 346 at Independence High School.
Summer Rehearsals
Woodwinds and Brass: June 3, 10 – (12:30 – 3:00 p.m.)
Colorguard: June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9 – (12:30 - 3:00 p.m.)
Percussion: June 3, 10, 17, 24, July 1, 8 (5:00 - 8:00 p.m.)
Percussion Clinic: Nick Rail “Sounds of Summer”- July 19 (Time TBD)
Band Camp
All Section Leader, All Freshmen, and All Percussion Camp: July 30, 31 – (8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.)
Review Day: EVERYONE (Required) August 1 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
Band Camp Week 1: (Required) – August 4-8 – (8:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.)
Band Camp Week 2: (Required) August 11-15 – (8:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.)
End of Band Camp Potluck: August 15 – Performance (Required) at 6:00 p.m., Potluck at 7:00 p.m.
Students are required to wear cool, comfortable, athletic clothes with closed toed athletic shoes to all rehearsals. No jeans,
boots, or sandals will be allowed. Please bring a beach towel, sunscreen and lots of water. During band camp, students will
have a one hour break for lunch every day. Students should bring food to eat or have a parent prepared to bring their lunch
to them.
Students who wish to be in the Marching Band and Colorguard need to make sure they are enrolled in the appropriate class.
All Band, Colorguard and Percussion students must be enrolled in 1st Period. Students who are planning on being a
percussionist must also enroll in 8th period Percussion (8th Period meets 2:30-3:30 after school on regular schedule days).
