ASSOCIATED STUDENTS (ASCOA)
Members of the Associated Students and student clubs have the opportunity
to participate in the development of governance policy of the college through
the Shared Governance process. They are the voice of the students in
college, district, and state issues pertaining to students and their pursuit of a
quality education. The association shall encourage students to participate in
the governance of the college and may conduct any activities, including
fundraising activities, as may be approved by the appropriate college
officials.
INTER CLUB COUNCIL (ICC)
The Inter Club Council is a committee of the ASCOA and is composed of a
representative from each club/organization on campus. Clubs must maintain
active membership in the Inter Club Council. The Inter Club Council
provides support, guidance, and advocate for clubs and organizations at
COA.
STUDENT CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
Student clubs and organizations present students with opportunities to
learnleadership skills with practical experience, while also developing social,
and advocacy skills.
Campus organizations offer students a variety of events and activities that
cultural, entertaining, educational, and service to students on campus and
the surrounding community. Examples of service that campus organizations
have involved themselves in include raising money for books, scholarships,
and awards recognition.

CLUB PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES:
1. Dues and initiation fees shall not be excessive.
2. Membership will be by majority vote, and not restricted by race,
color, sex, or creed.
3. There will be no hazing as stated in Section 10851, 10852, and
10853 of the Education Code of the State of California.
4. All officers must have and maintain a minimum of 2.0 grade point
average.
5. Meetings must be held on campus and be open to any official of the
college or student association.
6. All funds must be handled through the Cashiers Office and credited
or charged to the club’s account.
7. All activities must have faculty sponsor(s) present.
PROCESS OF CHARTERING A STUDENT CLUB
Any new student club can apply for Club Charter by completing the following
steps:
1. Obtain a Charter Packet from the ASCOA Office.
2. Obtain a Faculty Advisor of their choice
3. Complete Packet should include”


CLUB CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I
The Club shall be called _________________________________________

ARTICLE III
Any College of Alameda student shall be eligible for membership.
There shall be no restrictions. Membership shall begin when a person signs the club roll.
ARTICLE IV
The Club shall elect a President by a simple majority vote of members present.
The Club shall appoint a representative to the Inter-Club Council, in addition to an alternate for
that position.
The Club may elect any other officers it deems necessary by a simple majority vote.
There may also be various members appointed to be in charge of various tasks as the need
arises.
Officers may be removed when a 2/3 vote of the members present at any meeting decides to
eliminate them, whereupon only a simple majority will be needed to elect the new officers.

ARTICLE V
The Club shall meet _______________________ . Other meetings shall be held if sufficient
need exists in the opinion of the members.
ARTICLE VI
This Constitution shall be amendable with the consent of ½ of the members present at a regular
meeting. Any amendment the majority decides on shall be considered an amendment and the
Constitution shall reflect that change.

This Constitution becomes effective upon the acceptance of a majority of the members present
at the first meeting.

FACULTY ADVISOR AGREEMENT
Before agreeing to be faculty advisor for an organization, you should have
an opportunity to read the student’s Club Organization Packet so you may be
acquainted with the purpose, objectives, and membership of the propose
organization. You should also review the Faculty Advisor’s Handbook to
familiarize yourself with the responsibilities you are expected to assume as a
faculty advisor.
We encourage your participation and appreciate your support for
enhancing the college experience.
