Design A Species Group Project - 50 points Your team needs to create an imaginary creature (just like I did with the unimonster). The creature must have at least 6 genetic traits: 2 single allele traits, 1 incomplete dominant trait, 1 codominant trait, 1 sex-linked trait, and 1 trait that is EITHER a recessive allele trait or a dominant allele trait. 1. Describe and sketch each of the traits on the list, showing genotypes and phenotypes for each. 2. Sketch two examples of your creature. The two examples must have different genotypes. 3. Pick one of your single allele traits and create a sample pedigree for your creature. Your pedigree must have at least 3 generations and 15 individuals. Include the genotype above each square/circle. 4. Create a dihybrid cross using your 2 single allele traits. (Ex. AaBb x AaBb) Include the parents’ genotypes, gametes produced (FOIL), a Punnett square, and the phenotypic ratio of offspring. 5. Create 3 practice problems using any of your traits. Solve each one as if you were showing someone who knew nothing about Punnett square what to do. (Like I did with the Chevalier 4-step Method.) Group Members: ____________________________________________________________________________ Name of Creature: __________________________________________________________________________ Design a Species ChecBric: I encourage you to check off each item off, so that you do not forget anything. Task 1 – Creation of Traits (each trait worth 2 points) ________ For each trait we have created, we described AND sketched the possible genotypes and phenotypes. single allele trait single allele trait incomplete dominant trait codominant trait sex-linked trait recessive/dominant trait Task 2 – Example Creatures ________ We have created two example creatures each with a unique genotype. ________ We have NEATLY sketched each example creature with traits that are EASY to identify. Task 3 – Sample Pedigree ________ Our pedigree has at least 3 generations and 15 individuals. ________ Our pedigree is NEATLY drawn using straight lines. ________ Each circle and square is NEATLY labeled with its genotype. ________ Our pedigree is logical and accurate for our chosen trait. Task 4 – Dihybrid Cross ________ We have created a dihybrid cross using our two single trait alleles. ________ We have written out our parents’ genotypes. ________ We have “FOIL”ed to produce our parents’ gametes. ________ We have NEATLY drawn and completed a Punnett square representing the possible offspring. ________ We have written out the phenotypic ratio of offspring. Task 5 – Sample Problems ________ We have written 3 practice problems using our traits. ________ We solved Practice Problem #1 with CLEAR and LOGICAL steps. ________ We solved Practice Problem #2 with CLEAR and LOGICAL steps. ________ We solved Practice Problem #3 with CLEAR and LOGICAL steps. Task 6 – Professionalism & Quality ________ Our assignment is NEATLY written or typed. ________ Our assignment demonstrates thought and creativity. ________ Our ChecBric is attached to the back of our assignment. ________ Our assignment is wrinkle and tear free. ________ We are proud of our final product because it reflects our best work Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /12 Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /4 Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /10 Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /6 Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /12 Comments/Feedback: Grade Earned: ______ /6 Grade Earned: __________________ / 50 points possible Additional Comments/Feedback: _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
