This Week in Religious Education Class… Week 12 Grade 1 This week our Fantastic First Graders discussed Mary, the mother of Jesus and were introduced to the Hail Mary prayer. We saw a puppet show of the Annunciation (Angel Gabriel told Mary she would be the mother of Jesus) and played a fun game of Honor Your Mother. We also put together a Hail Mary Puzzle and heard a storybook. Practicing the prayer at home is a great way to support your child’s faith growth. We finished up with assigning a Bible Buddy who brought home a bible storybook. Enjoy reading the stories together and remember to bring it back next week. Grade 2 This week our Super Second Graders discussed the Epiphany (the presentation of gifts to the baby Jesus from the three kings.) We watched a video called the Fourth King and discussed the words to the popular Christmas carol “We Three Kings.” We read a story book, “The Legend of Old Befana” and wrote a letter to Befana as a response. Befana is an Italian legand of an old woman who was too busy to join the Three Kings as they search for the Christ child. We must never be too busy to seek Christ in our lives. Grade 3 This week our Terrific Third Graders worked on a handout about the Mass. Together we learned about the correct responses for the Mass and reason why we do what we do at Church. We are preparing for a tour of the church for next week. Grade 4 Our Fine Fourth Graders explored the gift of creation and why this is an amazing gift of God’s Love for us. We played Creation Cranium which had us drawing, sculpting and acting out parts of the Creation story. We also began the sprouting of lima beans and compared it to caring for God’s creation. We finished with a true/false game about creation facts. Grade 5 The First-rate Fifth Graders took part in a church tour, learning about our church community. Ask your child to name one thing that he/she learned on the tour. If time allowed, we also made “Thinking of You” cards for the residents of Whitehall Nursing Home. Grade 6 The Supreme Sixth Graders began a unit on the Initiation sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. This week we discussed Baptism. We watched a Youtube clip of Busted Halo Sacraments 101 – Baptism and discussed the material presented. We also played some file folder games about Baptism and made Thinking of You cards for Whitehall residents. Grade 8 Our Eighth graders had their session cancelled due to poor weather conditions. We will not “make up” the session but rather readjust our teaching schedule to cover required material. Our Evening retreat is to be held on January 9th from 4:30-9:00pm for those who registered.
