Buncombe County Mediator/Facilitator The Mediation Center is seeking a skilled, energetic, and ambitious social worker or human services professional to provide facilitation and mediation services in Buncombe County. The Mediator/Facilitator will facilitate 5 to 15 Child and Family Team meetings per week at the Buncombe County Department of Social Services. Meetings focus on topics related to child abuse and neglect, custody, foster care, termination of parental rights, and safety. On an as-needed basis, mediation or coordination of other types of services may be required. This is a great position for someone who enjoys interacting with diverse clients in emotionally charged situations. The ideal candidate will have experience with group facilitation on family-related topics; strong reasoning skills; well-developed professional boundaries; the ability to facilitate productive conversation on highly emotional topics; and clear and professional written and verbal communication skills. Training in mediation and Child and Family Team facilitation will be provided to the right candidate. Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, which must include Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. In addition, it is preferred that the candidate is also available Mondays from 9am to 6pm, although other days/times may be negotiable. Candidates with flexible schedules may be offered more hours on an as-needed basis. Compensation: $13.50-$16 per hour, DOE Paid vacation, sick leave and holidays Location and Travel: The employee will work primarily at our Buncombe County office and travel almost daily to the Buncombe County Department of Social Services and other community locations to provide services. There is also some travel to Henderson County. Work-related mileage is reimbursed. If you do not meet these requirements, please do not take the time to apply: o Master’s Degree from an accredited school of social work o Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative o Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year full-time directly related professional experience* o Master's degree in counseling or a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; o Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time directly related professional experience* o Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of full-time directly related professional experience* *directly related experience must be family case management or direct-service mental health with families. We are unable to count volunteer work or internships toward the requirements. And a valid NC drivers’ license, acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle for use on all workdays.
