Portia Douglas Tournament The Ogden High School Debate Team would like to invite you to Portia Douglas on Saturday, November 1st. This will be our third year having brought this tournament back, and we are glad to see this Historic Debate Institution running at our school again. Definition of a novice competitor: For the purpose of this competition, a novice competitor is someone who has never competed in a debate tournament in a prior year. NOVICE EVENTS: Congress Extemporaneous Speaking (National and Foreign may be combined based on number of entries) Impromptu Public Forum LD VARSITY EVENTS: Congress Extemporaneous Speaking (National and Foreign may be combined based on number of entries) Impromptu Oratory Public Forum LD HI DI (HI and DI may be combined based on number of entries) DUO Policy Double Entries will only be accepted in speech events. Double enter at your own risk. Congress – We will be using the legislation found on the UDCA website (10 listed at the end). Public Forum – We will be using the November topic. Lincoln-Douglas – November topic (we will be using the varsity topic only). Policy: Resolved the United States Federal Government should substantially increase its non-military exploration and/or development of earth’s oceans. Awards: Varsity students will be awarded 1st-3rd in every event. Novice students will be awarded 1st-3rd in every event. Judges: You must bring 1 judge for every 6 students or portion thereof in individual events, 1 congress judge if you are bringing congress contestants, 1 LD judge for every 3 students or portion thereof, 1 policy judge for every 2 teams or portion thereof, 1 Public Forum judge for every 3 teams or portion thereof.
