Offsetting your Travel Footprint
Boulder, Colorado is known for natural beauty, local breweries, outdoor activities and environmental sustainability. Did you know that SWALL is trying to lower your environmental impact from travel to/from the conference? Yes, SWALL is the first
AALL chapter meeting that is striving to make travel to and from the conference carbon neutral. A small fee (about the cost of a pint of local beer) is collected from each attendee to pay for a carbon offset to offset your greenhouse gas emissions for your travel. The project benefits a tribal renewable energy project to help the environment and people who are having difficulty heating their homes and paying their utility bills. To learn more about this search the Internet for the Trees, Water
& People Solar Furnace Project.
What YOU can do on your Trip:
Sustainability is also a personal commitment. Here are a few “green” tips to help you lower some of your impacts on your trip:
Reduce the amount of water used for bathing or showering.
Participate in the hotel's linen program by electing not have your sheets and
towels changed daily.
Bring and use an insulated beverage container for hot drinks and water.
(You’ll need to drink a lot of extra fluids at high altitude. )
Take bus (RTD) to/from airport and taxi to hotel once you arrive at the
Transit Center (less than 1 mile from the hotel.)
Walk or share a taxi or shuttle to get around.
When you leave your hotel room, turn off the AC, lights, TV, and radio. Close the drapes.
Participate in hotel recycling programs by placing recyclables in appropriate bins.
Take only the brochures or maps necessary. Return others to the brochure stand.
Take only photographs. Do not take "souvenirs" from natural areas, historical areas or hotels.

Leave only footprints. Take everything out that you brought with you. No
litter.

Recycle/return your name badge for reuse at the end of the conference.
Ask vendors/exhibitors to participate in the SWALL Travel Offset Project – perhaps in lieu of taking their stuff.
Enjoy fresh, local food if available (Farmer’s Market!) and beverages.
