Budget Proposal for Funds for Oregon State University’s Undergraduate Seismic Design Team Item Airfare for Joe Conference Hotel for Joe Conference Fees for Joe Partial Meal / Shuttle Stipend Rate $250 204.60 / night for 3 nights $25 + $50 Late Reg. $52.40 x 5 ppl Grand Total Total Cost $250.00 $613.80 $75.00 $262.00 $1200.00 The OSU Undergraduate Seismic Design Team will be competing in the Fourth Annual Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition which is sponsored by PEER, MCEER and MAE. The competition is to be held on February 8th and 9th, 2007 at the Universal City Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The objectives of this competition are to provide civil engineering students an opportunity to design and build a structure that will not only perform well under earthquake simulation, but will also take into account feasibility and revenue potential of their structure. The objective of the Oregon State University team, in addition to the above mentioned objective, is to represent Oregon State well and perform to the best of our ability during this competition. The Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) is able to sponsor four team members. This includes the team member’s airfare, entrance into the EERI conference and hotel costs. Our current team is composed of five people. Therefore the cost that is left is airfare, conference fees and hotel stay for one person. Estimates for airfare are roughly $250 dollars, hotel stay at the Universal City Hilton is around $650 dollars and conference fees for an undergraduate student to the EERI conference is $25 dollars. This comes to a total of $925 dollars to send the fifth team member to the competition. In addition to sending our 5th team member with also are responsible for food costs and taxi service to and from the hotel for all five people. Averaging meals, each person should be in the area for nine meals and will need shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, and vice versa. We estimate that the shuttle costs will be $100 and that meals would be roughly $10 per person per meal. Our proposal is to receive funding to send our fifth team member and cover food and taxi for all attending team members. The priority which we would like to request these funds is first food and taxi service for the four team members and if funding is available to send the fifth member to the competition with food and taxi also paid for. The totals would be $460 to cover the rest of the costs for the 4 person team or $1500 to send everyone and to cover our expenses. The members of our team are as follows: Jeremy Mikkelsen Beth Mcnair Sarah Martin Josh Lehr Joe Henry Attached is a copy of the details regarding costs provided by EERI/PEER and our construction plans for this competition. Email regarding expenses that PEER is covering: Dear Team Captains for the Seismic Design Competition, I just received the list of teams and team members, and was pleased to see that so many students are interested in participating this year. To start, I thought I would share with you what expenses that PEER will cover: We will pay for the following: -Airfare for up to 4 team members. We will book and pre-pay these tickets. -Double-occupancy lodging (room & tax) at event hotel for 4 team members. We will book and pre-pay these reservations. -Supplies for team, up to $300 in expense reimbursement. -Shipping expense reimbursement, up to $300. -Registration fees for 4 team members (@$25/pp) Your team will be responsible for your own meals and misc. transportation expenses (hotel parking, shuttles, etc.). In addition, you'll have to cover airfare, lodging and registration fees for the extra people over 4. The conference rate at the hotel is $179 per room per night, plus 14% tax = $204.60. EERI is using the Universal City Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles, California. Meeting site (registration, lodging, etc.): http://www.eeri.org/news/meetings/07AM/ As team captains, I ask that you provide me with the email addresses for everyone on your team, along with the gender of each person. Also, you will need to decide which four people you want us to book/prepay plane tickets and lodging for. I'll be in touch with those four people about booking flights in early January. Let me know if you have any questions.
