ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES APRIL 21, 2015 The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on April 21, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the school board office on 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana. The Invocation was led by Mrs. Young. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Vessel. ROLL CALL: Mr. Owen, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Fuselier, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Grice, Mrs. Vessel, Mrs. Kimmell, and Mrs. Watkins. 1 ABSENT - Mr. Dayton APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the minutes of the March 17, 2015 Strategic Planning Meeting, March 17, 2015 Work Shop/Committee Meeting, and March 17, 2015 Special Board Meeting, April 14, 2015 Operations Committee Meeting, April 16, 2015 Human Resources Committee Meeting and April 16, 2015 Finance Committee Meeting. Mrs. Vessel seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Mr. Devillier reported that 5 K Run was held Saturday and was a success. ZFest will be on May 2, 2015. Tennis State Tournament will be in Monroe starting on April 27 - May 1, 2015. Zachary High School Bi-District Softball Regional will be on April 28, 2015. End of the year PARCC Testing starts on May 4-8, 2015. RECOGNITION OF ALEXIS GRANVILLE - AMERICAN IDOL The board recognized Alexis Granville for being chosen as a contestant on American Idol. The board presented Alexis with a certificate. RECOGNITION OF 2015 GIRLS DIVISION 1 INDOOR STATE CHAMPIONS The board recognized the 2015 Girls Division 1 Indoor State Champions: Kristian Jackson, Janie O'Connor, Dakota Williams, Kiara Bethley, Jennifer Brown, LaQuea Schiele, Ashlyn Cole, Jenet Campbell, Victoria Guidry and Shaquea Schiele. The board recognized the Coaches: Chris Carrier, Johnny Nagle, Jason Davis, Adam Carlisle, Kendall Cleveland, Kelvin Kelley and Chet Delee. The board presented each one with a certificate. RECOGNITION OF PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR - MRS. JENNIFER MARANGOS The board recognized Mrs. Jennifer Marangos as Principal of the Year. Mrs. Marangos is the principal at Rollins Place Elementary. The board presented Mrs. Marangos with a plaque. TO CONSIDER AND TAKE ACTION WITH RESPECT TO ADOPTING A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL SYSTEM, IN THE PARISH OF EAST BATON ROUGE, STATE OF LOUISIANA, ON SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 2015, TO AUTHORIZE THE LEVY OF A SALES AND USE TAX THEREIN. Mrs. Young moved to consider and take action with respect to adopting a resolution providing for canvassing the returns and declaring the result of the special election held in the Zachary Community School System, in the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, to authorize the levy of a sales and use tax therein. Mr. Hughes seconded the motion. (See Attached) There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT Mrs. Young moved that the board accept the Proces Verbal and Canvass of the Voters cast for Special Election. Mrs. Vessel seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT STEP INCREASE FOR 2015-2016 Mrs. Vessel moved to freeze the step increase for one year. Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE RENOVATION OF ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS TRACK AND MULTIPURPOSE FIELD Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve amending the budget for the renovation of Zachary Community Schools Track and Multipurpose Field for $175,000.00, for a total cost of the project to include all fees of $1,150,000. Mr. Hughes seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT BID FOR RENOVATION OF ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS TRACK AND MULTIPURPOSE FIELD Mrs. Fuselier moved to approve the bid for renovation of Zachary Community Schools Track and Multipurpose Field with Global Synthetics Environmental, LLC for $1,150,000. Mrs. Watkins seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT NAMING OF PUBLIC BUILDING Mrs. Fuselier moved to approve the renaming of the public building, Academic/Athletic, in honor of Mr. Jerry Boudreaux. The building will be named the Jerry Boudreaux Academic Athletic Center. Mrs. Watkins seconded the motion.
