JANUARY 6, 2015
The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on January 6, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at
3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.
The Invocation was led by Mr. Dayton.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Owen.
SWEARING OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS
School Bord Members were sworn in by Ricky McDavid, Board Attorney. They are;
Gaynell Young - District 1, Gwen Fuselier - District 2, Marty Hughes - District 3, Donna Grice District 4, Hubie Owen - District 5, Heidi Vessel - District 6, Beth Kimmell - District 7, Ann
Watkins - District 8, and David Dayton - District 9.
ROLL CALL: Mr. Dayton, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Fuselier, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Grice, Mr. Owen, Mrs.
Vessel, Mrs. Kimmell, and Mrs. Watkins.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the Minutes for the December 15, 2014 Finance Committee
Meeting, December 15, 2014 Facilities Committee Meeting, December 16, 2014 Work Session
and December 16, 2014 Board Meeting Minutes.
Mr. Owen seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Devillier congratulated the newly sworn in school board members. He told the board that
he is excited about the new year. Students returned back to school today. All schools and
offices will be closed for Martin Luther King Holiday on January 19, 2015. There will be a Board
Retreat Friday, January 23 - Saturday, January 24. The Zachary Community School District has
been awarded a Jumpstart Grant for $75,000. The district will split this grant with surrounding
districts. The school district has also been awarded Early Childhood Grant of $50,000 plus
$4000 for Technology. The district will split this grant with seven childcare facilities in Zachary.
The Louisiana Public School Risk Management Agency awarded our district a grant of $4,964 for
safety upgrades.
RECOGNITION OF RETIREE
The board recognized Mrs. Marie Johnson, Cafeteria Manager at Zachary Elementary. Mrs.
Marie has a total of 27 years of service. Mrs. Johnson was unable to attend.
ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD OFFICERS
Mr. Dayton opened the floor for nominations for School Board President.
Mr. Dayton nominated Hubie Owen for President. Mrs. Vessel seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.

Mr. Dayton opened the floor for nominations for School Board Vice President.
Mr. Owen nominated Beth Kimmell for Vice President. Mrs. Watkins seconded the motion.

David Dayton asked the board to email Mr. Devillier any agenda items that they have for the
Board Retreat.
