WELCOME
into our Community those who are visiting us today.
Tea and Coffee will be served in the hall every Sunday after 9am Mass
If we were to ask someone the question: ‘Who do people say I am?’, there might be a
part of us that would be a little worried as to what the answer was going to be. When
Jesus asked it, he was not worried at all. He just wanted to make sure his friends
knew exactly who he was. He knew himself. He was only asking so that he could help
his friends get to know him better. There is a book entitled: ‘Will the Real me, please
stand up!’ I can only be my true self with the help of Jesus and that should be part of
my daily prayer life. Lord Jesus, please help me to be the person you want me to be.
Amen.
God bless you all
Father John

1. Coffee after Mass: Coffee after the 9am Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows resumes from this
Sunday and all are welcome to come along and have a look round the new hall and all its
facilities. Also available in the hall will be a selection of duplicate books from the Parish
Library. Please come and have a look and take any you wish – for a suitable donation please.
2. Tuesday Teas - social group for older folk (well, over 50 anyway): Tuesday Teas meets
fortnightly in the new St Alphege Hall, Lower Road from 2.30pm to 4pm and is a social group
with tea and cake prepared by our team of splendid volunteers. Sometimes we have some
special entertainment or we may go out and about as well. New members are very welcome
so if you, or your friend(s), would like to join please contact Gill Walker - 01372 457987 or
email GillianMWalker@gmail.com. We have recently visited Hove again by popular request
and enjoyed a good lunch at The Sussex pub followed by a visit to the Hove Museum. During
the month of August when the old hall was closed, undergoing demolition, we visited the lovely
garden of one of our volunteers for tea. We also visited the Medicine Garden in Cobham but
have now returned to our brand new venue of St Alphege's Hall. Meeting dates fortnightly from
September 15th."
3. Raising funds for Christian Aid. Saturday 24th October : Come to a fun evening, and

October 24th starting at 7pm. Refreshments at half time and wonderful music provided
throughout. Please let Gill Walker know if you would like to join us (for facility and catering
reasons) 01372 457987 Donations for Christian Aid welcome."
4. To be a Catholic: Is there anyone in your family or household or someone else you know
who you think would like to find out more of what it means to be a Catholic? OR anyone who
is a Catholic and just wants to find out more about their faith? Here in the parish we will soon
be starting our R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) programme. This is designed
for all those wishing to look at what it means to be a Catholic. If you know of anyone who would
like to join our parish programme, please take a green form from the back of the church and
get it back to me as soon as you can. Thank you and God bless. Fr John.
Bishop Richard visits the Parish. On Thursday 1 October 2015 Bishop Richard is
coming to our Parish to bless the Annex at Fetcham and St Alphege Hall Effingham. He will
arrive at Fetcham at 10.30am for the blessing followed by coffee and cakes with
Parishioners. At 11.30am he arrives at Effingham for the blessing followed by a buffet lunch
and leaves about 1.15am to go to St Teresa’s Mass at 3pm (this is the only Mass in the parish
that day). All Parishioners are welcome to the blessings coffee and lunch for which there is no
cost, but if you are able to come please sign up on the lists at the back of the churches so we
have idea of numbers.
