On whether he views the signing as a fresh start
“Definitely. I think I’m just excited for the chance to come in and compete and have a chance to be on a team that has serious
intention to win it all.”
On the importance of going to a 4-3 defense
“I felt pretty comfortable in both defenses. I think the priority was finding a system where I felt comfortable with the coaches
and I wanted to be on a team that was going to be in a winning situation. Those were kind of the main two contentions. Being in
a 4-3 obviously is something I’ve played the majority of my career, so it’s also a nice thing.”
On the Broncos’ front office and coaching staff
“I really have a good feeling from the staff. I think that they have high expectations here, which I think breeds good football.
Obviously they have the pieces in place to win football games. They showed they could do it last year. I think there is a
confidence about the staff that is comforting. When you’re a player when you meet coaches that feel good about the way they
run things and their knowledge and their own coaching ability—I think it translates to confidence in the players.”
On whether he’ll play middle linebacker
“That’s what I’ve played throughout my career, so I imagine so.”
On the atmosphere in the building
“I think people are excited, obviously. The [WR Wes] Welker deal is a big deal. He’s a great player and just another weapon on an
already scary offense.”
On the buzz in the front office with the Wes Welker signing
“Yeah, I heard when it happened. I heard some people were very excited. It’s a big deal.”
On playing against Welker
“He’s definitely a dangerous player because you think he’s covered and you throw the ball to him, he’s going to catch it. He’s so
versatile in the slot. He’s a durable guy. He has been as productive of a guy as there is in the NFL in the past five or six years. I
think he’ll be a great addition to the team.”
On the Broncos defense
“They were a top-five defense last year. I think it’s a great combination when you can have a stout, strong defense on a team
with a prolific offense. That’s a winning combination. Obviously the standards on both sides of the ball are high here. I think
that’s a great place to be and a great working environment.”

On whether it was important to get something done quickly
“I talked to other teams and stuff, but I think overall, for me, this is the best fit. I grew up in Salt Lake [City], which is close to
here—kind of the same weather environment. That was another factor that was important for me.”
On finding out he was cut from Arizona while on his way home from his honeymoon
“Yeah, I was in customs when they called me. It wasn’t a surprise, but the exact place I was when I found out was kind of a
surprise. I was kind of expecting it though.”
On if it was easier to be cut since he knew it was coming
“Yeah, with the amount of money that I made in the first two years and the way things kind of panned out, it was expected.”
On if he consulted his wife before agreeing to move to Denver
“Before I started taking some trips, she said, ‘Trust your instinct.” She’s on board. Definitely different than last time. I’m no
longer the boss. It’s an adjustment.”
