certain that you include the website (resource) where you found the image.
What in the world is MLA?
MLA stands for Modern Language Association, an association for scholars of language and literature,
and this association publishes a guide on how to document research. According to their website, “All
fields of research agree on the need to document scholarly borrowings, but documentation conventions
vary because of the different needs of scholarly disciplines.… Generally simpler and more concise than
other styles, MLA style features brief parenthetical citations in the text keyed to an alphabetical list of
works cited that appears at the end of the work” (“What is MLA Style?”). In this module we are going to
learn how to create a works cited page and how to format the entire essay in MLA style.

Learning Activities
The learning activities section is a way for you to sequence your students learning. Consider this as
your way of guiding them to understanding and scaffolding their learning. Be creative, use the right
tool for the right objectives and whenever possible integrate knowledge checks with feedback and/or

learner achieve the learning objectives. Add learning activities as necessary.
This is where you would insert lessons if you choose to use them: Lesson 1, Lesson 2, etc. See the
example below.
Be sure to delete from this template, any activities that you do not plan to use in this module. For
example, if you will not use a “Interactive Case Study”, then delete the entire activity on Interactive

a list of all of the sources that you used in your essay. If you created an in-text citation in your essay, then
that source needs to be listed on your Works Cited Page. Knowing how to correctly create a Works Cited

Description of assignment
You need to create a Works Cited Page for the Definition Essay that you are currently researching. This
is just a working draft of your Works Cited Page. This means you will take some sources that you are
currently looking at and use them to complete this assignment. You may or may not end up using these
sources in your final draft. (If you do not end up using them, you will need to delete them from the Works
Cited Page before you turn in your final draft of your essay in Module 10. And you will probably use other
sources that are not going to be on this working draft of the Works Cited, so you will need to be sure to
add those as well.)
Guidelines:
 Entries need to be correct according to the readings and videos in this lesson
 The page needs to be in correct MLA format (spacing, indentation, etc)
 Must have the minimum of four sources
 At least two of the sources must be from a database (Ebsco,Gale, etc)

“Research Definition Outline”
You need to create an outline for your Research Definition Essay (due next module). Your outline should
be typed and should follow the same guidelines you learned in Module 5.
So far, you have created a Topic Proposal and gotten my feedback on your topic, created research
questions around your topic, researched and taken notes on those questions in your working outline, and
now you are going to turn all of that information into a structured outline for your Research Definition
Essay. Be sure to include your thesis and all the evidence/support you are going to use in your essay,
and organize that information into this formal outline. The essay itself will be due in the next module.
