EVERETT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT PENNDATA CALCULATION GUIDE In order to calculate the Penndata Reporting section on a student’s IEP the total hours and minutes a student is in school and classes, etc. needs to be converted to decimals. The following charts are designed to help in the calculations: Minutes Decimal 4 0.07 5 0.08 6 0.10 10 0.17 15 0.25 20 0.33 25 0.42 30 0.50 35 0.58 40 0.67 43 0.72 45 0.75 50 0.83 55 0.92 Minutes Decimal 60 1.00 65 1.08 70 1.17 75 1.25 80 1.34 85 1.42 86 1.44 90 1.50 95 1.59 100 1.67 105 1.75 110 1.84 115 1.92 120 2.00 Minutes Decimal 125 2.08 130 2.17 135 2.25 140 2.34 145 2.42 150 2.50 155 2.59 160 2.67 165 2.75 170 2.84 175 2.92 180 3.00 The elementary school starts at 8:15 and ends at 2:50 pm. That is 6 hours and 35 minutes, which is a decimal of 6.58 The middle school and high school starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:11 pm that is 7 hours and 11 minutes, which is a decimal of 7.18. (Since students are allowed in their classrooms at 8:00 they are with their “nondisabled peers” for that time). Conversion for the middle school and high school periods is as follows: Period 1 2 3 4 5A 5B 6 7 8 Minutes Decimal 50 0.83 43 0.72 43 0.72 43 0.72 43 0.72 43 0.72 43 0.72 43 0.72 45 0.75 EVERETT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT PENNDATA CALCULATION GUIDE Middle School/ High School Example calculations: Example #1: An 11th grade student is in the co-teach and/or general education class for all subjects except for period 3 individualized math. Therefore his time Column 1 Column 2 Calculation Indicate Percentage Total hours the student spends in the regular classroom per day Total hours in a typical school day (including lunch, recess & study periods) (Hours inside regular classroom ÷ hours in school day) x 100 = % (Column 1 ÷ Column 2) x 100 =% Section A: The percentage of time student spends inside the regular classroom: 6.46 7.18 89.97% of the day Percentage Category Using the calculation result appropriate percentage category – select the INSIDE the Regular Classroom 80% or More of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom 79-40% of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom Less Than 40% of the Day Calculation: 7.18 hours in the day minus .72 (period 3) = 6.46 Example #2: The same as above but the student also receives a half-hour of speech per week. Column 1 Column 2 Calculation Indicate Percentage Total hours the student spends in the regular classroom per day Total hours in a typical school day (including lunch, recess & study periods) (Hours inside regular classroom ÷ hours in school day) x 100 = % (Column 1 ÷ Column 2) x 100 =% Section A: The percentage of time student spends inside the regular classroom: 6.36 7.18 88.57% of the day Percentage Category Using the calculation result appropriate percentage category – select the INSIDE the Regular Classroom 80% or More of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom 79-40% of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom Less Than 40% of the Day Calculation: 7.18 hours in the day minus .72 (period 3) minus 0.10 for speech = 6.36 (Speech is thirty minutes per week so it converts to 6 minutes per day). EVERETT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT PENNDATA CALCULATION GUIDE Elementary School Example calculations: Example #1: the student is seen individually for speech (30 minutes per week), OT (20 minutes per week) and individualized language arts (120 minutes per day). Therefore the calculation would be: Speech: 30 minutes/week = 6 minutes/day = 0.1 OT: 20 minutes/week = 4 minutes/day = .07 Ind. Lang. Arts: 120 minutes/day = 2.00 Total Decimal: 2.17 6.58 – 2.17 = 4.41 Column 1 Column 2 Calculation Indicate Percentage Total hours the student spends in the regular classroom per day Total hours in a typical school day (including lunch, recess & study periods) (Hours inside regular classroom ÷ hours in school day) x 100 = % (Column 1 ÷ Column 2) x 100 =% Section A: The percentage of time student spends inside the regular classroom: 4.41 6.58 67% of the day Percentage Category Using the calculation result appropriate percentage category – select the INSIDE the Regular Classroom 80% or More of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom 79-40% of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom Less Than 40% of the Day Example #2: The student is in co-teach for math and language arts. There is some “pull out” for pre-teach/tutor and test taking. The hypothetical time for these activities may be 75 minutes per week. 75 minutes per week = 15 minutes per day = 0.25 Column 1 Column 2 Calculation Indicate Percentage Total hours the student spends in the regular classroom per day Total hours in a typical school day (including lunch, recess & study periods) (Hours inside regular classroom ÷ hours in school day) x 100 = % (Column 1 ÷ Column 2) x 100 =% Section A: The percentage of time student spends inside the regular classroom: 6.33 6.58 96% of the day Percentage Category Using the calculation result appropriate percentage category – select the INSIDE the Regular Classroom 80% or More of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom 79-40% of the Day INSIDE the Regular Classroom Less Than 40% of the Day
