Abstract: My contribution will probe some options for leveraging the national, regional and
continental resource endowment towards advancing Africa in the global knowledge economy.
Specifically, key requirements for this, especially those that lead to job creation, will be identified,
and the attendant framework constructed. These options will be calibrated against the structure and
dynamics of the global knowledge landscape. Policy implications will be drawn out of this analysis,
which could use the discourse around the green economy as a vehicle.
