Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research, located in Bastrop, Texas has the following position available: SENIOR ANIMAL ATTENDANT Department of Veterinary Sciences Squirrel Monkey Colony Salary: $19,200-$28,800 SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Senior Animal Attendant is to provide quality and experienced animal care and husbandry, and perform specialized duties necessary for rhesus monkeys in the Rhesus Macaque Breeding Research and Resources (RMBRR) colony. The Senior Animal Attendant position supports overall colony health by accomplishing daily husbandry goals to include cleaning, sanitizing, feeding, observations, supporting the environmental enrichment program, and safely transporting animals within the colony. The Senior Animal Attendant must be able to work independently and with a team. The position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to follow directions in effort to accomplish daily goals of the program. The Senior Animal Attendant provides husbandry support on weekends and institutional holidays on a scheduled, rotating basis, and may work overtime as authorized by the Animal Resources Manager. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education: Some College LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Required: None Preferred Certification: American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT). EXPERIENCE Required: One year of animal experience in an animal hospital/clinic or animal research facility. May substitute required experience with completed years of college on a one to one basis.
