Cody Davidson, Associate Pastor April Business Meeting Questions God Asks Us Special Summer Sunday School Study May 25th – July 27th Starting Memorial Day weekend and ending in July, the Couples I, Couples II and Adults II class will be having a combined 10-week Sunday school class for the summer. This special study will be based on the book, “Questions God Asks Us”. This study focuses on 5 questions from the Old Testament and 5 questions from the New Testament that God asks. Each week is self-contained, so don’t people who participate do not have to be worried about missing various questions throughout the summer. The “Questions God Asks Us” is a spiritually forming way of exploring scripture passages and how they are applicable to our current situations. Also, the first and second (tied) classes with the highest percentage of members attending were: (1) Fellowship and (2) Golden Circle and Pre-K class. The average attendance in March and April was 105 persons. USED SUNDAY SCHOOL, WEDNESDAY NIGHT & OTHER SMALL GROUP BOOKS Renew, Reuse, & Recycle If you have been a part of a Sunday school, Wednesday night or other small group and have used a study book purchased by the church, we are asking anyone, who would like to do so, to return the book to the church so other classes may use it. Also, if you have a copy of “THE STORY” or “Not a Fan” and would like to return it to the church for others to read and use, please feel free to do so. The intent of this effort is for Sunday school, Wednesday night and other small groups to reuse books in different classes and settings. Often more than one Sunday school class will use the same book or a book used in Sunday school will be used on Wednesday nights. No one is obligated to return any book if they do not wish to do so. Please feel free to leave any books you wish to return on the table in the hallway next to the copier. Please see Cody for more details. Summer Supper Clubs Summer Supper Clubs are a great way to purposefully schedule time to relax and make new church friends. How does it work? Any person/family who wants to participant simply signs up on the Summer Supper Sheet on the bulletin board. May 25th is the last Sunday to sign-up. Then, everyone who signs up will be put into a group with two other persons/families, which constitutes a summer supper club. The summer supper clubs will meet once a month for June, July and August; each time at a different person/family’s home to share a meal. The times and which home to eat at is determine by the summer supper members. If you have any questions, please see Cody. 5th Annual Midway Master Chef and Dessert Auction To Benefit the Haiti Mission Trip June 4th On June 4th, we will have our annual Midway Master Chef and Dessert Auction. The grill-off teams of two cooks will begin early in the afternoon, but the feast will start at 6:00 in the Ministry Center. Drinks and meat are provided and prepared by the competitors; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish. Mike Taylor will be our auctioneer for the dessert auction. We are also asking participants to prepare and enter their favorite homemade dessert for an auction. The winners of the grill-off will be determined by a team of judges. If you are interested, please let Cody know. 5th Annual Corn Hole Tournament and Cook-out with Potluck, Ice Cream & Face Painting June 25th On June 25th, we will have our annual MBC Corn Hole Tournament. At 6:00, we will begin with our Wednesday night meal. The church will provide the meat and drinks; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish and/or dessert. There will also be face painting and ice cream! If you are interested in participating in the tournament, please sign up at the meal. The tournament will begin at 6:45. The tournament will consistent of a best two out of three first round, and then the following rounds, which will depend on the number of teams, will be single elimination. This will insure that every team will play at least three games. After the first rounds, there should be empty corn hole boards for eliminated teams for non-competitive fun. The tournament will conclude with the Championship game! August 3rd 5th Annual Home Run Derby with Hotdogs, Hamburgers, and Slushies At the Midway Softball field On August 3rd, come out to the Midway softball field and enjoy some “fun in the sun” and good ole home run hitting. The church will provide the meat and drinks; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish and/or dessert. We will begin eating hamburgers and hotdogs at 6:00. We will have our home run derby starting around 6:45. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chairs or blankets for your family. Everyone is welcome to enter the Home Run Derby. The Derby will consist of two rounds. Everyone will participate in the first round. Each batter will get 10 swings. The batter is awarded 1 point for every homerun. When you are not batting other participants will play in the outfield to catch and return the balls as they are hit. After the first round, the top three hitters will compete in a second round for the championship. Good Luck!! The MBC Youth Group is a family of middle and high school students eager to grow and learn through Christ: with a heart for making a difference in the lives of others and caring for one another. ESL & GED CLASSES Ministry Center Midway Baptist Church is again hosting ESL and GED classes on Wednesday nights from 6:308:00 p.m. We always need volunteers! All you have to do is show up! To teach ESL, it is not necessary to speak any languages other than English. Please invite anyone you know who could benefit from these classes; we will be able to host them as long as there is a need in the community. VISITATION AND OUTREACH Ministry Center, Leader: Bill McGregor The Wednesday night visitation and outreach group will be continuing their outreach in during the fall semester. The group meets each Wednesday evening after the dinner to visit shut-ins, members, and prospects around the Midway area. Group members pack up a box dinner from the Wednesday night meal for the shut-in they plan to visit that evening. After prayer at 6:45, we will take a dinner to each shut-in and, if invited, we will stay for a short visit. We try to team up in pairs for each visit. HAITI MISSION TEAM Room 202, Leader: Ron Wyatt Each Wednesday night, starting January 8th, any person who is interested in being a part of the mission team going to Haiti is invited to be a part of this special small group. This group will meet weekly in preparation for the trip. Each week the group will focus on different aspects of the mission including learning language. Also, this group will be reading the book “When Helping Hurts…How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor….and Yourself”. This group will be led by Ron Wyatt. BABY BLANKETS AND TOBAGGONS Room 100, Leaders: Adele Conder and Rachel Craig If you enjoy knitting or crocheting this is the group for you! Each week, starting January 8th, this group will enjoy each other’s fellowship and conversation while creating baby toboggans and blankets and more. The items will then be donated to the NICU unit at Central Baptist hospital throughout the winter months. If you have any questions, please see Adele, Rachel or Cody. GUIDED IMAGERY AND MEDITATION ON SCRIPTURE Room 101, Leader: Cody Davidson January 8th to January 29th, April 30th to May 14th If you enjoyed the “Celebration of Discipline”, but did not feel like you had enough time to practice and/or further develop the spiritual disciplines (e.g., prayer, mediation, study, etc.), this group is for you! This group will intentionally take one hour to share with each other their own experiences of these practices and engage in a variety of practices each week. In particular, the group will have a different prayer and meditation with a journaling experience. If you have any questions about this group, please see Cody. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE GIVING OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS FOR SERVICE IN THE KINGDOM Room 101, Leader: Cody Davidson February 19th-May 7th This small group is one of the many small groups that will be meeting during this six week time period to share together “The Holy Spirit and the Giving of Gifts”. The focus of this study is gain a deeper understanding of how the Holy Spirit gives all persons gifts which are used collectively to grow God’s kingdom on earth. The five days a week devotional is a scripture reading along with a half page devotional as well as thought-provoking questions related to the Holy Spirit and the giving of spiritual gifts (10 to 15 minutes per day). The small group meeting is a very important part of the study. If you did not take part in a previous small group, please plan to do so this time. If you have any questions, please see Cody. WALKING GROUP April 23th-May14 Starting Wednesday night, April 9 , there will be a group of people taking weekly walks around Midway following the fellowship meal. Please feel free to join this social group to share in conversation and fitness. th Hearing By Faith Daily Audio Bible Did you know 54% of Christians read the Bible once a week or less? Starting in 2014, Midway Baptist will join with eight other churches in Woodford County to experience “Hearing by Faith”. Hearing by faith is an ecumenical effort lead by St. Andrews Anglican church to have every person hear the Bible in 2014. There are information cards on the table outside the sanctuary for anyone who is interested to participate and commit to this important discipline.
