International Nutrition Consultant

Improving Food Security and Market Linkages for Smallholders in Otdar Meanchey and Preah
Vihear Provinces in Cambodia
MALIS
Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Cambodia, and the supervision of the
Project Manager of MALIS, the ‘Improving Food Security and Market Linkages for Smallholders in
Otdar Meanchey and Preah Vihear Provinces in Cambodia’ project, in close consultation with the
relevant technical divisions at FAO Headquarters and the Regional Office Asia-Pacific, the Nutrition
Consultant will ensure that the nutrition, complementary feeding and food processing aspects of the
project are aligned to deliver the results outlined in the project document. Specifically, he/she will:










Work in line with existing project directions, to oversee nutrition related activities and focus on
the achievement of results relating to improving food security, the nutrition status of target
communities and complementary feeding practices.;
Liaise closely with FAO Nutritionists based in FAO Headquarters and the Regional Office
Asia-Pacific providing direction and technical guidance;
Design training and oversee the training of trainers for the training of community nutrition
promoters,;
Work closely with other team members and technical experts to ensure that project activities
are closely integrated with nutrition aspects including the incorporation of nutrition modules in
Farmer Field Schools, linking improved family feeding to improved complementary feeding
and improved complementary feeding with food processing ;
Contribute to the project work plan, targeting criteria for the complementary feeding and food
processing components of the project and set up the implementation arrangements in
consultation with the involved partners and technical experts;
Advise the Project Manager and implementing partners on nutrition aspects of food security
improvement and income generation for smallholders;
Ensure effective liaison with the authorities, key partners including the IMCF Research Project
and National Nutrition Programme, and other stakeholders on policy and programming aspects
on food security and nutrition on a regular basis;
Ensure that disability and gender equity policies for the project are implemented in all nutrition
related aspects of the project;
Represent the project and FAO programme in public and at coordination meetings as required;
Perform other related duties as required.
Specific Deliverables for the Consultancy
1. Training programme and materials for training of community nutrition promoters approved by
the National Nutrition Programme and technically cleared by FAO;
2. Updated training master plan for the nutrition result for MALIS;
3. Review of the project work plan for nutrition and food processing related activities;
4. Final report including a record of all work undertaken and specific recommendations for the
improvement and ongoing conduct of nutrition related work.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
 University degree in nutrition or related discipline
 At least five years of relevant experience in nutrition and working with rural families in
developing countries, including Cambodia
 English proficiency.
Desirable Qualities for Selection
 Experience working in Cambodia with international agencies and dealing with Government
agencies;
 Experience in coordination and facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes;
 Demonstrated leadership, managerial, supervisory and inter-personal skills;
 Quality of oral and written communication and analytical skills;
 Ability to plan and to work independently prioritize tasks, working under pressure and within
tight deadlines.
Duty Station: Siem Reap, with extensive field work in Otdar Meanchey and Preah Vihear
Duration: 21 days
