EVROPAEVM Diary y ryry September 2013 November 2013 April 2014 Europaeum Summer School Trustees Meeting Graduate Workshop 2nd-7th: Annual Summer School on Rights in Europe: Are Europeans all equal?, with 30 selected Europaeum graduates from member universities and contributions from keynote experts from academe, the judiciary, ECHR, NGOs and politics, to be held at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. 5th: Meeting of international Europaeum Board of Trustees, chaired by Dr Pierre Keller, to review current and future Europaeum policies, in London. For 20 select graduates The Crisis of the European Market: What role for ethics and fairness?, to be held in Prague with Tomas Sedlacek (Prague) and others (tbc). Jenkins Scholars Steering Group Meeting 5th: Celebration to mark 10th Anniversary of Jenkins Scholars Awards, to be held in concert with donors, past scholars, supporters and members of Jenkins Memorial Board, with Lord Patten, Lord Adonis and Lord Liddle, at the Reform Club, London. Meeting to review the C onsortium’s academic policy, convened under Professor Wim van den Doel (Leiden) (date tbc) Graduate Workshop Annual Europaeum Academic Council meeting in Paris, to be chaired by Dr Andrew Graham. (tbc). Europaeum Joint Teaching Launch of the tenth academic year of the jointly offered MA in European History and Civilisation, linking the Universities of Leiden, Paris 1 and Oxford. International Conference 16th-17th: The Europaeum will co-support an event on The Internet and Democracy, to be held at New York University, run by the New York Review of Books. Graduate Workshop 7th-10th: For 20 to 25 select graduate students, Coastal Cities, Waters & Climate Change in a hotter 21st Century. The workshop will take place in the Netherlands during the annual World Water Week (details tbc). May 2014 Academic Council Meeting Europaeum Lecture Lecture by a Professor from Oxford at the Graduate Institute, Geneva. Liaison Group Meeting 19th-21st: 20 Europaeum graduates join an international conference on Europe and Transformation at Jagiellonian University, also marking 10 years of the European Studies Institute in Krakow, with Jan Zielonka (Oxford), Gerard Delanty (Sussex), Hans-Jörg Trenz (Copenhagen), Zdzislaw Mach (Krakow) and others to come. Graduate Workshop Europaeum MA Programme December 2013 International conference on Academic Freedom: Universities in East & Central Europe since the Fall of the Wall, also as follow-up to Europaeum’s Future of European Universities inquiry, at Jagiellonian University as part of Krakow’s 650th Anniversary. Vaclav Havel Dialogue Project Jenkins Scholarships 26th: Second year launch of new Vaclav Havel European MA Programme, Europe and the World, linking Prague, Paris and Leiden with students moving to second partner institutions. Europaeum Lecture 26th: Professor Sir Adam Roberts (Oxford) at Charles University, Prague, to lecture on Civil Resistance and Power Politics: From Prague to the Arab Spring, with graduate seminar to follow. October 2013 International Conference 10th – 12th: Conference on Federalisms and Localisms in East and West: India, Europe and North America, backed by James Madison Trust and Jindal University, with Professor Raj Kumar (Jindal), Mani Shankar Aiyar MP, Professor David Marquand (Oxford), with keynote speakers, including the Vice President of India, H. M. Ansari and Lord (Meghnad) Desai. th th 14 -16 : For 15 select graduate students on Democracy in Times of Crisis during the conference at Charles University in Prague (details tbc). Europaeum Lecture Lecture by Jussi Hanhimäki (Geneva) at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University (details tbc). 7th-8th: Vaclav Havel Dialogue Project inaugural conference to initiate student debate, to be held in Prague, with Europaeum support. January 2014 Jenkins Memorial Fund 20th: Closing date for applications for up to six Jenkins Scholarships awarded annually, in honour of Roy Jenkins, linked to Europaeum universities. March 2014 Europaeum Lecture Lecture by a Professor from Oxford at FOM Madrid. Annual Meeting of 12 ordinators due to be held. liaison co- Policy Forum Announcement of new 2013-14 Jenkins Scholars linked to the Europaeum in honour of Roy Jenkins. June 2014 European Policy Seminar Graduate workshop to be held in the European Parliament in Brussels, on European Policy-Making, involving EU officials, experts, policy-makers, run by IEP-Lisbon and Europaeum. International Graduate Debate Part of a large international conference, with prominent international speakers, hosted by Institute for Political Studies, Catolica University, in Lisbon.
