Class Inventory of Traits Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine the frequency at which different traits occur in our class, and to look for patterns in the traits occurrence. Hypothesis: Create a table for the 13 traits for your initial hypothesis. Tell whether you think the trait is dominant or recessive. After we gather class data, fill in a revised hypothesis. Materials: Pencil, PTC paper, YOU, paper Procedure: 1. Set up your lab report. 2. Fill in your personal answers on your Traits Survey. 3. Mrs.Golde will add results to the overhead. 4. Record the class data in your data section. 5. Using the data, predict which traits are dominant and which are recessive. 6. Answer the conclusion questions. Data: One table of your own results. One table of the class data. Remember…tables need titles. Conclusion/Discussion: What did you base your hypothesis on? Were you right 100% of the time? Are more common traits “better” than less common traits? Are dominant traits more common than recessive traits? Which trait surprised you with how many people had or didn’t have it? **Conclusions must be complete sentences. You need to turn on your “science writing” side of the brain for a conclusion. ** Traits Inventory In column 1, record whether you have the trait or do not. In column 2, record the # of students with the trait In column 3, record the % of students with the trait In column 4, tell if you believe the trait is dominant (D) or recessive (R) Trait PTC Tasting Ability to Tongue Rolling Presence of Mid-digital Hair Blue Eye Color Detached Ear Lobes Presence of Widow’s Peak Presence of Cleft Chin Naturally Curly Hair Hitchhiker’s Thumb Presence of Freckles Presence of Dimples Left on top Interlocking Fingers Bent little finger Do you have the trait? # with trait % with trait Dom or Rec Actual Dom or Rec?
