Minutes of a meeting of the Royal Naval Association Torrevieja branch 3rd Dec 2014-Held at Restaurante El Paraiso Urb del Mar In Attendance: Paul Edwards Chairman Danny Kay Vice Chairman / membership Secretary Margaret Forshaw Secretary John Forshaw Treasurer Terry Watson PRO Dick Conway Social Secretary Pamela Cluney Welfare Volunteers Gillian Burden Kathy & Len Brown C Holloway Attendance: 24 Full members 19 Associate members 3 Visitors Apologies received from R Hargrave A & P Deathers L& C Ramscar A Macrae- Clifton Tor Stangeland R Hughes The Chairman opened the meeting and welcomed all members and our visitors. Members stood for the shipmate’s prayer and a period of silence was observed in remembrance of those who had fallen since our last meeting. The chairman asked for acceptance of the minutes of our last meeting this was proposed by Alec McCallum and seconded by Gillian Burden. They were unanimously accepted with no matters arising. The Vice Chairman interjected and apologised to member Eddie Cowan for spelling his name wrong. The Chairman thanked Dick for his e-mail ref the old salt and reminded members of the floral parade on the 6th. Vice Chairman’s Report: Your standard was paraded at the royal British Legion gala concert in Torrevieja theatre and at La Siesta church on remembrance day. There will be a floral offering at the church of the Inmaculada in Torrevieja on Saturday 6th December starting at 1700. This will start at Plaza Oriente and finish at the church of the Inmaculada Conception. Danny gave thanks to John Forshaw for arranging the buffet at Hoggies after the remembrance service and thanks to Bob Harrison for parading our standard. A visit to the Alimentos Solidarios (soup kitchen) has been arranged for Tues the 9th and Reach out the following week details to follow. Danny gave thanks to all who had attended the Quiz with the Royal Marines, sorry we did not win the cup but we did get the money. A return match will be on 4th February after our meeting. As membership Secretary Danny reminded members annual subs were now due. Secretary’s Report: November circular is on the desk. I hope to receive update on rule changes before Christmas. There is a leaflet on Christmas shopping at Maritime books. I have received calls from Maddie and Baz Winwood also Helen and Aidan Hill Plymouth R N A sending best wishes to the branch. I have also received calls ref next year’s Anniversary celebrations.When we were registering as an association we needed a commissioning certificate, there wasn’t one when I took over presumably lost in the annuls of time. I contacted H Q and they searched the archives and sent certificate signed by the National Council dated 1990 October 2nd. A copy of this certificate was on display for a year when Pamela did the notice board. As has been explained before erroneous information was published in good faith by an ex member. I have been assured by National Council the date is correct. A copy is on the desk. H Q open days are as follows April 10th May15th July3rd August21st Oct9th, if at all interested let me know I have put out forms for the A G M Agenda, this is for election of Chairman and Secretary, nomination of charities, amount proposed and items to be discussed Only items on the agenda can be discussed at an A G M I am willing to stand again but if any member wishes to take over no hard feelings December circular is available on line password Shipmate. Treasurer’s report: John gave a full account of our finances. He then asked for clarification of when we wanted to give out the money collected for charity.he asked do we want to give some money at Christmas or wait till the A G M when we give not only locally but R N related charities. Dick Conway proposed that we wait till the A G M this was seconded by Mike Wright and unanimously accepted by members. John also reminded members the fund was also for our welfare reps to use when visiting a sick member for flowers e t c . Welfare Report: Colin Holloway told members he had visited Jean and Bill Tirrell and was able to give them a plant from us, he was also able to visit Tony Aldridge, Marie said Tony who is suffering from Alzheimer was having a good day. Robin Hargrave was going into hospital today and having an operation tomorrow. Pamela told us Chris Stokbaek was still in Denmark out of hospital but still poorly. Social Secretary’s Report: Dick informed members of the Christmas party to be held at the Asturias Restaurant on Tues the 9th. This will be the last function Dick will be arranging he is standing down as social secretary and said it would be up to members to perhaps take turns to arrange meals etc rather than one person carrying the load. P R O Report: Terry explained Danny had covered most things but he will send email with the addresses of the churches. Any Other Business: The Chairman read out a message he had received from Jeanpaul Molero of the AO RI (foreigner’s office) the Mayor would like to visit us and discuss any concerns we may have, obviously with his schedule this will take some arranging. Paul has answered saying when our meetings are held and said we would welcome him . Paul again reminded members Dick is standing down as social secretary. This is an important position Paul asked members to bear this in mind and if interested please let him know. There being no other business the meeting was formally closed at 1755. The next meeting will be here on January 7th at 1700 Addendum from Danny: All members full and associate are liable for subs, the exceptions are Life members and those 80 years or over.
