PRESS RELEASE Project launch One World in Schools, Moldova On Wednesday, March 19th at 3 pm a launching event for the project One World in Schools, Moldova will take place at Spiru Haret Theoretical Lyceum. One World in Schools, Moldova (OWIS Moldova) consists of human rights documentary film screenings within school classes (high-school level) followed by debates and class activities – as an interactive and nonformal teaching method. The aim of these activities is to support awareness, tolerance and dialogue on human rights among students and teachers as well as developing the interest for documentary films. The documentaries will address the topics such as: human rights violations, children rights, family relations, discrimination, societies in transition, poverty and migration, environment and global changes, conflict and reconciliation, freedom of speech, new media and safety on the internet and self development. The set of films will be accompanied by a methodological manual which will contain detailed information about the documentaries&themes addressed and nonformal activities for the class. The project was initiated in 2002 in Czech Republic by People in Need and since 2010 it is implemented in Georgia, Armenia, Mongolia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. After the preparatory phase the documentary screenings will start in September 2014 in 25 high-schools in the Republic of Moldova. The schools will be selected on contest basis (10 schools in Chisinau and 15 schools in the districts). The teachers participating in the project will be invited to take part in two workshops that will empower them to use the nonformal teaching methods through audio-visual methods. Following the contest organized for Chisinau in March, there have been already selected 10 schools. Further on, we are announcing an open contest for the high-schools in the following districts: Străşeni, Călăraşi, Orhei, Criuleni, Ialoveni, Hînceşti, Cimişlia, Leova, Nisporeni, Ungheni, Căuşeni, Anenii Noi, Glodeni and Făleşti. Schools and teachers interested interested in the project are invited to fill up the application form and send it to the addresses below. The deadline for receiving the applications is March 28th.
