Biome Study Project
Introduction
The Earth is covered by hundreds of different types of ecosystems.
Ecologists have divided these into a few biomes. Biomes have distinctive
climates and organisms. Each biome contains many individual ecosystems.
Biomes are named according to their plant life because the plants that grow in
an area determine what other types of organisms can live there.
The following biomes/ecosystems will be examined:
Tropical Rain Forest
Temperate Rain Forest
Temperate Deciduous Forest
Taiga
Tropical Savanna
Temperate grassland
Desert
Tundra
Mountains
Freshwater ecosystems
Marine ecosystems
Project and Requirements
Your task is to choose ONE of the above biomes/ecosystems and research
their corresponding locations, climates, abiotic characteristics, flora (plant
life), fauna (animal life), and ecological interrelationships. Afterward, you and
your partner must also create a 5 minute presentation explaining and
describing your topic. You must provide a written report and whatever
materials needed to orally present your information to the class. These
materials can take the form of posters, PowerPoint presentations, or other
visually interesting format. Finally, you must complete the Biome Project
Summary Chart found in Mr. Liu’s folder in the share drive of the school’s
network and save it in Word format by the deadline below.
The following information must be included in your project:
- locations
- climates
- abiotic characteristics
- flora
- fauna
- significant plant adaptations
- significant animal adaptations
- significant ecological interrelationships
Grading and Deadlines
Your work will be graded in two parts. Your team will be assessed on its
written report and on its oral presentation. Both team members must
contribute to the written report and both team members must contribute
orally. The deadline for the project is Friday, April 18th. Please be ready to
present on Monday!!!
