Statement of Educational and Professional Goals
By the summer of 2015 my goal is to successfully complete a masters degree is Information and
Librarians Science with a concentration in Reference. To obtain this goal I will be taking 2-3 online
courses in the spring, fall and summer semesters. Having completed LIS 505 and LIS 506 in the fall of my
first semester I will be taking LIS 518 and LIS 571 this upcoming spring of 2014. In addition to completing
the requirements for a reference concentration in information and Librarian Science, I will be working
with my advisor to take courses that develop skills towards assistive technology and genealogy records
in order to expand my skill knowledge and services in these fields. Finally I would like to complete an LIS
Practicum at one of my local libraries expand my on the job skills as well as make connections between
what I have learned in the classroom to real life experience.
After completing my master’s degree, my career goals include working as a reference Librarian
in either an academic or public library setting. Regardless of where my position is located I would like to
be an assistive technology specialist so that I cannot only keep up to date assistive technology in the
library and accessible to those with special needs but also insure that patrons who need this technology
are educated in using it
