Fr. William J. Early Memorial Catholic High School Scholarship Knights of Columbus, Ascension Parish, Council 7902 Information and Guidelines 2015 This Catholic High School student Scholarship is awarded by the Knights of Columbus, Council 7902, of Ascension Parish. Only registered and active members of Ascension Parish may apply for this Scholarship. This year there will be one scholarship awarded to a present or perspective male or female student of a San Diego Region Catholic High School. Applications are available in the Church Office after January 1, 2015 for the 20152016 School year. Scholarship checks will be made out in favor of the Catholic High School in one payment, and mailed to the successful student applicant. In addition to the Scholarship Application, ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED TO BE STAPLED TOGETHER AND SUBMITTED AT ONE TIME: 1. A copy of the student’s most recent report card. 2. A letter of recommendation from the student’s teacher or school Principal. 3. A letter from a Deacon or church leader detailing the student’s church activities. 4. A maximum 500 word essay from the student stating why they are attending, or want to attend, a Catholic High School and why they deserve a scholarship. Included must be at least two sentences about Fr. William Early, AKA “Fr. Bill”. Incomplete submittals will not be considered IMPORTANT DATES January 1, 2015; Application Forms available in the church office. APRIL 1, 2015; Deadline for all completed paperwork to be in the Church Office June 2015; Scholarship awarded: Announced at the Ascension Parish Church Fiesta and notification mailed to applicants. 1 The successful scholarship applicant will be determined by the Scholarship Board made up of members of the Knights of Columbus Ascension Council. Judging will be based on need, and the following criteria: Catholic works and service of the applicant and family; Community works and service of the applicant; grades and efforts in school; sincere desire for a Catholic High School Education. Determining scholarship recipients is a subjective process. The Knights of Columbus will put their best prayerful efforts into making the correct decision. Applications will be held in strictest confidence. Only the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Board members will have access to the information and solely for the determination of the successful applicant. Applications will not be returned.
