JOB SUMMARY: A staff Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab/Stress Testing Exercise
Physiologist is a staff member who directs the cardiac/pulmonary rehab patients
exercise regimen assigned to his/her within the scope of his/her degree. They also assist
in the Stress Test Lab under the direction of the Stress Testing RN. The staff exercise
physiologist is responsible to the Nursing Director on the unit to which he/she is
assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes
cause discomfort.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:





Graduate of accredited school with degree in Exercise Physiology
Appropriate intern experience preferred
This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and
assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of
life: early adulthood, middle age, and geriatric.
ACLS and BLS certified or obtains within 6 months of hire
Accurate recording of patients exercise and effort as well as appropriate monitoring
of vital signs
RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Specialty Services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequency Scale: 1 = Rarely/Never; 2 = Occasionally; 3 = Frequently and 4 = Consistently

Demonstrates ability to monitor the cardiac/pulmonary rehab patient and stress
test patients
Effectively communicates to the nurse the extent the patients’ ability to perform
needed exercise, abnormal cardiac rhythms, abnormal pulmonary functions
during exercise, and other communications related to the patients care.
Implements patient care according to planned exercise program to attain
the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy.
Demonstrates positive customer service relations
Routinely participates in QI projects and encourages department to continuously
improve
Assists co-workers as needed/requested
Supports the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively
