Recycling – Frequently Asked Questions
 What can I recycle?
o Paper, card, steel tins, aluminium cans, plastic bottles.
 How does the red and blue bag scheme work?
o The Parish provides red and blue recycling bags for households to separate
paper, light card, plastic bottles, aluminium cans and steel tins.
o Further details can be found on the Parish website www.sthelier.je/refuserecycling-glass
 Why can’t I recycle all my plastic containers?
o We cannot accept low value plastics such as fruit, vegetable and meat
trays or yoghurt and margarine tubs as these do not currently have a
monetary value, which means we cannot sell them as a commodity.
 Why is PoSH using bags and not boxes?
o One of the barriers to recycling is the lack of space to store several boxes
for recyclables; therefore, we introduced bags which are easy to store. If
you have a large amount of recycling you just use more bags.
 How often is my recycling collected?
o Every fortnight on the same day as your refuse collection.
 What happens if I have lots of recycling?
o You are not restricted to only 2 bags per week; you can use as many bags
as required.
 What do I do with my non-recyclables?
o Your non-recyclable items are placed with your residual waste in your
wheelie bin.
 What do I do with electrical items?
o Electrical items must not be put in with your residual waste.
o They can be taken to the Bellozanne Recycling Centre, Gate 4.
o For large electrical items such as TV’s and microwaves the Parish operates
a collection service, details can be found on our website under bulky item
collections.

o If you have a garden you could compost raw fruit and vegetable waste.
