Woodruff School ACE Music Program Grades 6, 7, 8 Congratulations! Your child, ____________________________________, has successfully auditioned for and been chosen to join the Woodruff School ACE Music Program. This program is a highly competitive choral and theatre program that helps educate your child in the three aspects of performing arts (theatre, dance, vocal performance), and provides skills that help reinforce the common core curriculum. Our season includes many performances for the community, regional and even national level. There will be mandatory lessons during study skills, rehearsals after school, some voluntary days on weekends, and during Parent/Teacher Conferences. A comprehensive schedule will be sent home in the near future. Participation in all performances of the musical, Winter Concert, and Spring Concert are MANDATORY. All other performances are not required but strongly encouraged. Woodruff School ACE Music students are expected to function as a “team”. Each member is an integral part of the group. Be self-motivated and cooperative Learn their vocal/speaking parts to the best of their ability (PRACTICING) Exhibit a POSITIVE attitude and proper behavior Come prepared for class and rehearsals (book/music, two sharpened pencils) ATTENDANCE POLICY: Each member is permitted three unexcused absences; more than three will result in disciplinary action and attendance will be taken at EVERY rehearsal. Interact, cooperate and respect peers at all times Be respectful of teachers, staff, parents, and administration Maintain a “C” average, or better, IN ALL ACADEMIC/SPECIALS SUBJECTS. Anything below a “C” will result in a suspension or dismissal from the program. Refer to Student Handbook Eligibility Be certain all assignments, reports, and projects are submitted ON TIME. Assistance is available to students in need of help, but PLEASE DO NOT WAIT until the last minute. Follow the Woodruff School Handbook HAVE FUN!!! Student Discipline Policy: Any student who falls short of the standards above or violates the following policies is subject to suspension or dismissal (with the approval of the Director and Principal of Woodruff School) from the ACE Music Program: 1. Three or more teacher/administrative detentions 2. One suspension from school for any reason 3. Three or more teacher referrals 4. Conduct unbecoming a member of the ACE Music Program (behavior, Handbook, violations, etc.) *Final decisions on suspension or dismissal from the program are made in consultation with the Director, Vice Principal and Principal. Any members who leave or are removed from the program WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE to return until the next academic year. Woodruff School ACE Music meets as class in the fall as a scheduled specials group and in the second half of the year becomes an after school activity. Members will be graded on their work in the class, rehearsals and all performances. Missing school classes will be kept to a minimum. In the event that a class is missed, ACE Music members are expected to and responsible for contacting the teacher and completing ALL missed academic work. Those members who play sports will be able to participate in both as scheduling is made between the coaches and directors for them to participate. The Woodruff School ACE Music Program will enable your child to be challenged musically, intellectually, physically, and socially. It will provide a realistic and hands on experience to professional musical theatre. There will also be trips, workshops, master classes and opportunities to work with the best and brightest in musical theatre and entertainment. If you and your child feel that he/she chosen in error or does not wish to participate in this program, please notify the me immediately. We have also formed a parent organization “Woodruff School Friends of Music”. This group will assist with many behind the scenes activities such as chaperoning, rehearsals, performances, fundraising, etc. for our events throughout the school year. This page is monitored and maintained by parents, teachers, alumni and students to help facilitate any extra communication that is needed about the program.
