Counts as 8 hours of clinical time 3. Supplies needed a. Lab set up with overhead projector and computer b. Prizes c. 2 decks of cards d. Headbands e. Puzzles – easy kid puzzles f. Sandwich size plastic bags g. Highlighters – 2 each of 3 colors h. Scissors i. Tape j. Game pieces k. Dice l. Play money 4. Divide group into 2 teams (8 students per lab day – 4 per team) a. Points earned for each activity – have candy prizes b. Keep running total of points on board 5. Poverty a. Can you survive extreme poverty? (flip a coin to see which team goes first) i. www.live58.org/survivel125 ii. can earn up to 30 points iii. put up site on overhead projector iv. as team goes thru have them give rationale why they chose what they did v. at end have teams discuss “no win” choices; could they make the choice to survive b. Board game i. Give each team 30 – 45 minutes to play game ii. Score is based on total money team has at end of play iii. Discuss what kept knocking individual back iv. Had they experienced such barriers v. What barriers “knock patients” out of healthcare 6. Discrimination a. Headband game i. 2 points per player who was correct in figuring out “headband” b. N2C card game 7. Age Trait Activity 8. Gender Trait Activity a. Give 1 point each per group for positive traits Add up score for the day and award winner and also pretty good prizes.
