FIND YOUR FUTURE STAR AT THE SPRING AUCTION
Stallion Licensing and Horse Fair on 8th - 11th March at MCH Messecenter Herning
At the Danish Warmblood stallion licensing in 2011 the judges faced an incredibly strong
collection of Danish bred stallion prospects among the 3-year-old dressage stallions. One of
them was the long-legged, Zaladin MI by Blue Hors Zack x Solos Landtinus, presented by his
breeder, veterinarian Steen Bo Larsen.
Zaladin MI was born in the month of June and appeared at the stallion licensing in Herning as
a large and attractive colt with great potential for further development. He was not approved
for breeding, but caught the attention of Swedish dressage enthusiasts.
Hannell Dressage and Tullstorp Dressage Stable, owned by Jan Brink, have been clients at the
Danish Warmblood Spring Auction and Elite Foal Auction for several years. At the Spring
Auction 2011 in Herning they purchased the price highlight, the Grand Prix mare Donna Dea
SK.
A bargain
Hannell and Brink saw opportunities in Zaldin MI, which others did not see. For only DKK
80,000 (euro 10,762) Hannell succeeded in acquiring the highly rideable and well-moving
young colt of which Brink purchased a 50% share of at a later point of time.
At the Swedish Warmblood stallion testing and licensing last week only four 4-year-old
dressage stallions were approved for breeding, and one of them was Zaladin MI. The chestnut
stallion was granted 8.5 and 9.0 by the two test riders Isabel Bache and Emmelie Scholtens,
and got a 9.0 for his walk and 9.5 for both trot and canter.
All together he achieved a total score of 9.19 and won the dressage test. Subsequently,
Zaladin MI was proclaimed the dressage champion stallion of the licensing.
– He is without a doubt one of the best horses I have ever owned, and his talent for collection
is comparable to that of Briar, says co-owner Jan Brink, who is the future rider of Zaladin MI.
Warming a breeder’s heart
Steen Bo Larsen decided to let go of the horse at a fairly modest auction price only because he
had seen who was bidding. He had no doubt in the quality of the horse, but with several
offspring of the same combination and quality at home, he found it more relevant to sell to the
right people.
– As a breeder it is of utmost importance to sell your progeny to the best riders, which we
succeeded in doing although we had hoped for a higher price. Jan Brink called last week to
invite us to the Swedish stallion licensing, as he gathered it might be a nice experience for us.
It really warms a breeder’s heart to hear the new owner tell the press that the horse you have
bred is the best young horse he has ever had, says Steen Bo Larsen.
