Penny Hill Park Warmblood Stud was created in 1991 with the birth of the colt Penny Hill
Park Davinci. By Leonardo 68, Davinci was groundbreaking in Australian warmblood
breeding -although bred over 20 years ago, he was the embodiment of the modern sport horse
Stallion that is being produced today. PHP Davinci was widely recognised as such and won
many accolades including the AWHA Premium Colt of Australia in 1996.
Penny Hill Park Stud was early to embrace frozen semen technology breeding one of the first
frozen foals in Western Australia, PHP Weltsohn by the legendary sire Weltmeyer. The stud
has continued to breed Mares of the highest calibre to some of the best Dressage Stallions
available in the world through frozen semen insemination. Stud owners Michelle and Steve
James travel regularly to Europe to attend the Young Horse Championships and visit many
studs and Stallion Stations in order to select the Stallions used in the breeding program.
Michelle has been a classifier with the AWHA for over 23 years and is a National Colt
classifier and National Warmblood Judge. Michelle is also an A.I. Technician, an NCAS
coach and has competed to Grand Prix level in Dressage. This broad experience in breeding,
classifying, judging, riding and training has enabled Michelle to develop an ability to assess
Stallions and Mares in relation to pedigree, type, movement, trainability and heritability in
order to breed dressage horses of outstanding quality.
PHP mares have produced some of the top Young Dressage Horses in Australia. Carrington
Park Wenona (Weltruhm/Sagamore Furisto) is the dam of Rossini (Rosentau) who was third
at DJWTS in 2010. This exceptional mare has also produced foals of elite quality for PHP by
Bellisimo M, Sir Donnerhall and Londonderry. Her son by Bellisimo M, PHP Bellagio came
first in Australia on the AWHA Tour in 2013.
PHP brood mare Kalimna Andromeda (Anamour/Kilof Mcohl) is the dam of Kalimna
Emblem who is a very successful Dressage Horse. He won the 4yo Young Dressage Horse in
Queensland in 2009 and the 5yo Young Dressage Horse class at Sydney CDI in 2010.
Emblem is currently WA Advanced Horse of the year and is on the WA State Squad with his
rider Bianca Wise.
Andromeda has produced daughters for PHP by Furst Romancier, IPS Vivaldi (Krack C
/Jazz) and Sir Donnerhall. PHP Veritas was the first Vivaldi foal born in Australia. Most
recently her yearling filly PHP Sahara by Sir Donnerhall was overall runner up of all
the AWHA Stud book horses presented across all classes in Australia with a whopping
score of 91.428%. This mare recently produced a stunning colt PHP Charmour by the
KWPN Stallion Charmeur and was sold to a competition home at only 3 days old!
Andromeda is currently in foal to the elite Stallion Furstenball.
We are thrilled with our consistently high results with all our horses and know that our
Breeding program for Dressage horses here in WA is of international standard.
Our mares and their progeny comprise the following bloodlines: Bellisimo M, Furst
Romancier, Quaterback, Anamour, Londonderry, Salute, Weltruhm, Furst Grandios, Sir
Donnerhall, Royal Hit, IPS Vivaldi, Weltmeyer and Charmeur. Most of our fillies have been
retained by the Stud and, although destined to compete with some of our internationally
experienced riders, will continue to produce elite foals for Penny Hill Park and our clients
through our Embryo Transfer program.
Penny Hill Park Stud produces elite quality Foals and Riding horses from the best dressage
bloodlines in the world. Expressions of Interest are invited for our foals due in 2014 and for
embryos from our mares bred to the Stallion of your choice or you are most welcome to
consult with Michelle in relation to Stallion selection. Dressage Horses are also occasionally
available for sale.
