Character Web’s
T/I / 25
In class we set up how to create a character web. The purpose of the character web is to identify the
traits / characteristics of the characters in the story. Remember these are not physical traits of the
person. The focus is to provide descriptions about who the person is or what they are like. Words such
as caring, kind, spiritual, intellectual, all describe who a person is.
Your character web is to include:



The name of the character in a box in the center of the page
o Inside the box, include a picture of what you think the person
might look like
Trait bubbles connected to the character name box
Inside each trait bubble include:
o Trait – provide descriptive word
o Proof – specific text from the book with page number
that proves the character has the trait
o Explanation – describe in a sentence how the text
demonstrates the character trait identified
Individually you must submit character webs for the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Pick one of the characters you have created a character web for. Using this information, individually,
write a character sketch. Refer back to your notes “Writing a Character Sketch” and the examples we
completed in class. It would also be a good idea to review the character sketch you submitted for
assessment so you can ensure you include what you did well and improve on the areas that were weak.
The character sketch should include:




Introduction Paragraph
o Name the character
o Title of the book
o A description using adjectives of the character
o List the three character traits
Body Paragraph
o Individually explain the three traits
o Quote text from the book and include the page number. Ensure you follow correct
formatting.
Conclusion Paragraph
