Miss Marcie Denton Classroom Management Plan and Policies Literature/Language Arts/Social Studies Clear Guidelines and Rules A. The classroom is a safe environment; each scholar is expected to be respectful in speech and actions towards others. A zero tolerance approach to bullying is strictly enforced. B. When someone is talking, the rest of the class is listening. C. Scholars will be attentive and stay on task during class time; this includes laptops. D. Bottom line: It is never okay to be disruptive or hurtful. Expectations A. Be Prepared B. Be Respectful C. Be Excellent D. Be Productive E. S.L.A.N.T. F. Scholars will come to class with: an agenda, required daily textbooks a binder, pencils or pens, silent reading book, writer’s notebook, reading response notebook and History notes composition book. Materials checks will occur throughout the year, in addition to random agenda checks. G. Scholars will be on time and reading silently when class begins. H. Scholars will work cooperatively with other learners and willing to resolve conflicts that occur. I. Homework: Scholars need to read at least 45 minutes every evening in addition to other assignments. The scholars will have a reading log to be completed nightly, along with a parental signature or initials. In addition, quarterly projects will be assigned based on a book read each quarter. Grading The CCPA grading policy is as follows: 90-100 A 80-90 B 70-80 C 60-70 D 59-below F The percentages will be 80%/20%. The 80% will be formal assessments such as tests, projects, essays and quizzes. The 20% will informal assessments such as homework, class participation and in-class assignments. No extra credit will be issued. If a scholar elects to retake a test, it is required that they participate in a Support Session with the appropriate teacher during their lunch period. Scholars who resubmit work will receive the average of the two scores (except in the case of writing assignments where full credit may be available within the acceptable grading period). The first test must be signed by a parent to be accepted by the teacher. Homework Policy All assignments at the Academy will be completed and submitted. The missing assignment may be turned in up to one day late for a fifty percent grade reduction. Habitual offenders will be referred to our Afterschool Program and parents will be notified. Scholars will receive a progress report for a “C” or below in their Wednesday folders. As a parent, you are encouraged to access the intranet often to monitor your scholar’s progress. Wednesday Folders Each scholar is assigned a folder that will be taken home every Wednesday. These folders will have graded assignments, school news and bulletins, progress reports and notes from the teacher. These folders should be returned with a parental/guardian signature on Thursday. Absences When a scholar is absent from school due to illness or a family emergency, they will be required to make up any work that was missed during the time period. The scholar will have equal the time missed to make these assignments up. The scholar may be asked to stay in during lunch, not as a punishment, with the appropriate teacher to assist in catching up on the assignments. This will be at the discretion of the teacher. P.R.E.P. Assignments Scholars in violation of our conduct or uniform policies will be assigned a lunch P.R.E.P. assignment. Scholars who are unprepared for class, or violate the management plan will also be assigned a lunchtime P.R.E.P. assignment. Cursing at the Academy will ALWAYS result in a P.R.E.P. During the assignment, scholars will remain silent, review the PREP expectations lesson and complete a reflection form. Scholars who misbehave during PREP or do not complete the Reflection form appropriately will be referred to the office. A scholar receiving three P.R.E.P. assignments in one month will lose the Scholar Acknowledgment rewards party, for that month, and will receive an after school P.R.E.P. assignment. Tardy Policy Morning class begins promptly at 8:15. Any scholar that arrives after 8:15 without a note from the office will receive lunchtime P.R.E.P. assignment for tardiness. Scholars arriving to class at 11:45 will have three minutes at their lockers to get belongings. Any scholar that arrives after the three minutes is complete will receive a P.R.E.P. for tardiness. Bathroom Procedures A scholar is permitted to use the restroom at designated classroom time using the pass in the agenda. Restroom passes are permitted at the designated time and during independent work time. A scholar without their agenda will be permitted to use the restroom but will receive a P.R.E.P. assignment for being unprepared for class. Technology Policy C.C.P.A. follows the district mandated technology policy. Cellular telephones, IPods, I-Pads and MP3 players are not permitted in class. Scholars should ensure that they are left at home. If your scholar must have a cellular telephone at school, it should be turned off and in lockers. A scholar caught with one of these devices in class will forfeit it to the teacher and a parent will need to pick it up from the office. Behavior Management The behavior management matrix is the following: 1. Warning for behavior 2. Removal from group activity 3. Lunch time PREP assignment and phone call home 4. Referral to the office Serious infractions or safety risks to the scholar and peers will automatically result in a referral to the office. Rewards A. Verbal and written praise to encourage scholars is provided consistently. B. Scholars who control their behavior in the classroom are entrusted to run errands for the teacher and will have special in-class privileges. C. Learning is a scholar’s own reward is recognized-achievement matters in our classroom and will be acknowledged by the teacher to the scholars’ parents and within our community of learners.
