Daikin Ururu Sarara, the first European air-to-air heat pump system with R32 refrigerant Europe’s first commercialised air-to-air heat pump system to use R32 refrigerant will be introduced by Daikin in Autumn 2013. The updated Ururu Sarara range, which has already won the prestigious 2013 red dot award for product design, offers very high energy efficiencies thanks to the use of R32, which at the same time means these units have a lower environmental impact than ever before. Ururu Sarara: Complete indoor comfort and award-winning design Daikin’s Ururu Sarara heat pump range offers a complete residential solution to indoor comfort, providing cooling, heating, air purification, ventilation, humidification and dehumidification. By adopting R32 refrigerant, the units can achieve a SEER of up to 9.54 (A+++) and a SCOP of up to 5.9 (A+++), making them the most energy efficient of their type on the market. Taking its inspiration from the Japanese folding “Ogi” fan, the wall-mounted range won the prestigious 2013 red dot award for product design in the air conditioning category. The judges said: “The fan-like shape and the choice of the colour white give this air conditioner a natural and noble appearance, which is complimented by its innovative technology.” Humidity control is an essential part of creating a comfortable environment and Ururu Sarara’s dehumidification function ensures humidity is lowered without changing room temperature. All units have an air purification filter to improve air quality by absorbing microscopic particles, removing odours and reducing potential for allergies. Automatic filter cleaning reduces energy consumption by a further 25%. The units are quiet and deliver an improved air flow pattern, reaching the furthest corners of a room, plus the two-area intelligent eye directs air flow away from occupants to reduce direct draughts and automatically activates economy mode when no presence is detected. The system comes with a user-friendly wireless control, with the option of connecting to an online control system. The environmental and efficiency benefits of R32 Daikin is renowned for its pioneering approach to product development, with more than 50 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of heat pump technology. As part of its commitment to the environment, Daikin aims to develop systems that improve comfort levels while having low environmental impact. Refrigerant choice is a key factor in the drive to maximise energy efficiency and to minimise the global warming impact of systems. When choosing which refrigerant to use in a heat pump system, the entire Life Cycle Climate Performance of a unit must be considered. This is based not only on the global warming equivalent of any direct refrigerant emissions but also on the energy consumption over the lifetime of the system, giving a much more accurate picture of the true global warming impact of a unit throughout its life. The use of refrigerants is assessed on the following key factors: Global Warming Potential (GWP), energy efficiency and natural resource efficiency. R32 has a GWP of 6751, compared with R410A’s GWP of 2,088, a reduction of 68%. R32 products can also achieve higher efficiency levels both in part load and full load conditions and R32 is a single component refrigerant, which makes it easy to recycle. The use of R32 in the new Ururu Sarara range offers end-users the opportunity to benefit from class-leading energy efficiencies, excellent air quality and high comfort levels, while lowering the environmental impact of their heat pump system. 1 Intergovernmental Panel on climate change, Fourth Assessment Report: Climate Change, 2007. www.daikin.eu >Ends Editors’ notes: About Daikin Europe N.V.
