Daikin’s fully flat cassette – Design and Genius in one Daikin has launched the fully flat cassette for its Sky Air and VRV commercial climate control systems. This new indoor unit offers high energy efficiency and excellent comfort levels in an iconic and unique design. Blending technology with design The fully flat cassette is the first commercial indoor unit developed specifically for the European market and is the result of a collaboration between Daikin and renowned international product designer yellow design. The cassette is designed to blend seamlessly with modern commercial building interiors and is the first to fit completely within a standard European ceiling tile, enabling lights, speakers and sprinklers to be installed in adjoining panels. Available in white or white and silver, the fully flat cassette’s flush fit, four-way air distribution and optional intelligent sensors that ensure it meets the highest demands of building design, while delivering excellent comfort and exceptional seasonal energy efficiency (up to A+). As with all Daikin systems, fully flat cassettes are easy to install, commission and maintain, whatever the project. The new units can be installed in a ceiling void height of just 300mm. Reducing environmental impact Building engineers are increasingly having to design climate control systems to meet evertightening environmental legislation. The fully flat cassette, which can be used with Daikin’s highly efficient Sky Air and VRV systems, cuts energy use dramatically and lowers carbon emissions, without compromising comfort levels. Efficiency can be improved even further by fitting the optional intelligent sensor kit, which includes a presence sensor and floor sensor. The presence sensor can reduce energy consumption by up to 27% by switching off the unit when nobody is in the room. The sensor also adjusts the air flow direction depending on where people are, to maintain comfort levels and prevent energy being wasted on unnecessary heating or cooling. The floor sensor detects the temperature difference between the floor and the ceiling and re-directs air flow to ensure a more even temperature distribution. Whisper quiet comfort and air quality The fully flat cassette’s 25dBA sound pressure level makes it the quietest on the commercial market. In addition to the sensors, it has a number of automated functions designed to enhance occupants’ comfort. For example, air quality is as important as room temperature and the fully flat cassette has advanced filters to remove dust particles to ensure the air is clean. The system is also able to reduce humidity levels, without varying room temperature. Flexibility for modern buildings Modern commercial buildings are designed to be flexible, allowing businesses to reconfigure spaces using temporary and permanent partitions. However, this can mean that indoor units end up close to a wall, or in a corner, creating problems with air flow. The fully flat cassette’s four flaps can be opened and closed to redirect air flow as required, avoiding this potential issue, providing increased design flexibility for building engineers and reducing potentially costly issues for building owners when it comes to refurbishing buildings. Daikin’s new fully flat cassette – Design and Genius in one With the launch of the fully flat cassette, Daikin is once again leading the way in the design and technology of climate control systems. This is not a case of form over function – the fully flat cassette’s iconic design makes it suitable for any contemporary commercial space, without compromising on comfort levels, air quality and energy efficiency. Whether it is part of a Sky Air or VRV system, the new range offers architects, building engineering consultants, installers, building owners and businesses a flexible and stylish solution to climate control. www.daikin.eu >Ends Editor’s notes: About Daikin Europe N.V. Sky Air – the seasonally-efficient solution The FFQ-C fully flat cassettes, with cooling capacities of 2.5 to 5.7kW and heating capacities of 3.2 to 7kW, are designed to be used with Daikin’s Sky Air Seasonal Smart and Seasonal Classic ranges in light commercial applications such as shops, restaurants, offices and data rooms. Meeting the latest European legislation on seasonal efficiencies that came into force on 1st January 2013, Sky Air’s inverter-controlled heat exchangers and compressors have lower energy consumption as they use only the power necessary to match the load. As a result, the units run most efficiently at partial loads and so are optimised to perform at their best in real life conditions. VRV – increased efficiency for larger commercial applications Daikin also offers a range of fully flat cassettes for larger commercial applications (FXZQ-A) for use with VRV heat pumps. FXZQ-A units have cooling capacities of 1.7 to 5.6kW and heating capacities of 1.9 to 6.3kW and benefit from VRV’s variable refrigerant temperature technology. This delivers a 28% increase in seasonal efficiency and provides continuous comfort, even in defrost mode. VRV systems are now simpler to commission and maintain thanks to the new VRV configurator. This advanced software allows the remote configuration of settings that can be used at multiple sites, so less time is required on the roof configuring the outdoor unit. Ongoing maintenance is easier too, thanks to a graphical interface that allows engineers to evaluate operational data and errors.
