Edition 6 December 2014 Edited by Kial Norrie (P7J) and Katie Maclean (P7) Another term has flown past at Dyce Primary! We have really enjoyed performing in our Christmas shows. Nursery performed ‘Away in a Manger’, P1-3 performed ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ and P4-7 performed ‘The X-Mas Factor’ We had a wonderful time creating Christmas crafts with our parents/carers on red, green and gold day. We hope you enjoy our Newsletter and have a funfilled family time in the Christmas holiday! 1A – Miss Bennett, Miss Youngson, Mrs Hosea Primary 1 boys and girls have been learning how to add and measure in Maths. We have learned new sounds and common words, and are using these words when we wrote our letter to Santa. We enjoyed making fireworks pictures for Bonfire Night. We have learned so much about other countries, including different weather and flags. P1Y have seen Flat Stanley in lots of interesting places. We have looked at being a good friend and asking appropriate questions. 1/ 2 - Miss Smith 2 and 2/3–Miss Glynn & Miss Hardman We have learned about addition and subtraction and shape in Maths. We have learned more letters and sounds in our phonics and spelling. P1/2 have also been travelling around the world with Flat Stanley, which they really enjoy, learning about festivals and other countries. P2 have learned how to write a fairy-tale story, including setting, characters and plot. They have explored around the World, and learned about Babushka dolls. In Maths, they have been adding up to 20, subtraction from 10 and measuring. 3M– Mr Martin P3- Miss Newell We have had a focus on the 2, 3, 5, and 10 times table. We learned about Australia, and had a mini-topic on St. Andrew and presented an assembly about Scotland’s Patron Saint. We have learned about the Ancient Egyptians. In Maths, we have learned about Place Valuein particular, Hundreds, Tens and Units. In Literacy, we have learned Dictionary Skills, including Alphabetical order. In P3, we have been looking at Ancient Egyptians, and we found this exciting. Our Maths lessons were about Hundreds, Tens and Units. We have been learning to write instructions in Literacy, and to include verbs and adjectives in our writing. P4H and 4M – Mrs Hamilton and Miss MacIver P5 – Mrs Casey-McKay P4 boys and girls have had a mini ‘Frozen’ topic. P5 have had a big focus on French, and they performed a show for each class, called ‘ Le Bonhomme de neige’ , which was about a Snowman. In Maths we have had a focus on 2 and 4 times tables and division. We learned about the Vikings. We have learned about using a dictionary and alphabetical order, and have been practising We have been writing biographies in Literacy, and used cooperative learning to make instruments. our joined up writing. P5/6- Miss Graham In Literacy they have been learning about characteristics. In Maths we have learned about Algebra, Multiplication, Division, Subtraction revision and Decimals. In Health and Well-being, we have learned about Diversity and Bullying. In IDL, we have been exploring Diversity and Difference, looking at Ghandi and Nelson Mandela. P6 – Miss Bowen The boys and girls in P6 have been learning about inspirational people, exploring what the term ‘inspiration’ means. We also looked at the life and teachings of Ghandi. We will continue to look at ‘Inspirational People’ after the holidays. In Maths we have been concentrating on algebra and equations, and we are continuing to practise our multiplication. We have explored characters in our reading and descriptions in writing. P7 – Miss Petrie P7P have been exploring the topic of ‘Around the World in 8 weeks’ where we have been learning about Natural Disasters and creating fact files on countries and continents. P7J – Miss Ambler P7J have been learning about different types of angles in Maths. We continued learning about World War 1 and the conscientious objectors. We have enjoyed meeting Miss Ambler, our new teacher and all getting to know each other. We have extended our writing skills by writing articles about our Christmas Show. We had fun carol singing at BP and preparing for our Christmas show the Xmas Factor. Here are our Pupil Council members.
