JOB DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: Learning Support Tutor (Mental Health) REPORTING TO: Head of Student Support MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST: To provide holistic support for art & design students who are experiencing significant emotional and mental health difficulties, to enable them to overcome barriers to learning. Tailoring support for individual student needs in order to help them stay on course and achieve to their full potential. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To support a specific cohort of students assisting with identified emotional and mental health needs on a one to one basis 2. To participate in the College’s procedures for the initial assessment and induction of students in order to identify students with emotional and mental health difficulties 3. To work with course teams to support specific cohort, liaising with Course Leaders 4. To monitor students’ emotional wellbeing and progress, making internal and external referrals where necessary 5. To ensure learning support records are comprehensive and prepared in accordance with the College’s audit requirements and the programme’s quality standards. To keep all databases and monitoring systems up to date. 6. To carry out regular and tracked reviews of students’ progress 7. To carry out designated non-teaching duties as directed 8. To inform the relevant Course Leader in writing of persistent lapses in student discipline, poor attendance or if the student wishes to change their support status 9. To contribute to the annual review of the service. To implement the review decisions ensuring constant improvement in effectiveness and efficiency 10. To contribute to the College’s strategic planning process as required Other 1. To comply with all relevant College policies and procedures. 2. Please ensure you have and can demonstrate the following in your application Essential criteria Method of assessment A relevant degree Relative teaching/mental health support experience Experience of working in an educational setting with a range of emotional and social learning difficulties including ADD/ADHD, Autistic Spectrum, Mental Health and Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties Understanding of factors that create barriers to learning and strategies to overcome these Ability to communicate with students and external stakeholders with conviction and clarity Demonstrates a ‘can do’ attitude and a commitment to outstanding service.
