Reports on the proposed AARC Activities and questions to be discussed (30th October 2015) 2) Alps-Adriatic (Graduate) Forum We kindly ask you to obtain the opinion of the rectorate/of your home university on the following activities: State of the art: In order to facilitate embedding researchers in the Alps-Adriatic research community, the AARC aims at developing Alps-Adriatic (Graduate Student) Forums as joint events organized and hosted each semester by different members of the AARC. The topic of this event depends on the contribution of the different faculties / universities. It is planned to create scholarships for the graduate students who will be invited from all AARC member universities and colleges. During the Scientific Committee Meeting held in January 2015 as well as in May 2015, members suggested having the colloquium each year on different disciplinary topics including issues that are of particular interest of the resident region (brain drain/brain gain), and supporting the themes that are mutual in all disciplines (e.g. mentorship or summer schools). Another topic of a colloquium could be Scientific Writing in English. In the future, an alumni/ae club via social media could be created in order to maintain the relationship between former and present participants of the colloquium. Questions to be discussed: 1) Which universities would support this initiative and form the consortium? 2) Which universities could join the project as associated partners? 3) Which potential topics are interesting for the project partners / related to their internationalization strategies? 4) Who will be the target group? Graduate students? Doctorate students? Researchers? 5) What would attract participants? 6) What are the expected results of the planned activity? (e.g. in terms of participants’ employability, development of other joint programmes…) 7) In which ways would participants (graduate students, researchers, others) benefit? 8) Which impacts will the intended project have on the Alps-Adriatic region? 9) NEW: What about an Alps-Adriatic Forum, as a main regular, visible activity of the AARC involving universities, politics, economy, industry, social and cultural institutions, so as to promote the cooperation in the AA-Region, tackle common challenges and exert influence on EU-institutions to develop programmes focussing on the AA-region, too? 1 1) Shared Market Place for Joint Projects Revitalization of the Alps-Adriatic region is one of main goals of the AARC. Thus, the “shared market place” as a mini fair indoor event gives AARC members the opportunity to present current and future projects to potential scientific/economic partners and other interested AARC participants. As such, collaborative AARC scientific and technological projects can be stimulated, new project ideas can be developed, and opportunities for further collaboration in existing projects can be pursued. After the Scientific Committee Meeting was concluded, the first Shared Market Place for Joint Projects took place in the afternoon of May 21st. After the keynote of Prof. Alfred Maier (Montanuniversität Leoben), eight projects were presented at eight different stands. The time limit for each presentation was set at 7 minutes. Presented projects: Renato Gennaro, University of Trieste: “Danube:Future” project & HINO Mladen Kraljič, University of Maribor: DEMOLA Rosalia Kopeinig: Carinthian International Club Sabine Kanduth-Kristen, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt: La Tassazione del Reddito delle Società in Austria ed in Italia. Besteuerung von Körperschaften in Österreich und Italien. Torino 2015. (book launch) Ralf Terlutter, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt: Master Programme „International Management” Erich Schwarz, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt: Smart Labs Andrea Wernig, Summer School Bovec Andreas Hudelist/Daniel Wutti, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt: Erinnerungskultur in Kärnten/Koroška – Commemorative Culture in Carinthia For further details on the projects see the minutes of the Scientific Committee & AARC, Klagenfurt, May 2015. In order to reach a wide audience, we recommend that the Shared Market Place for Joint Project should be organized on the day of the AARC Plenary Meeting and not on the day of the Scientific Committee. 2
