Globalization Globalization is the way to work together around the world. It is about economics or trade, technology, politics, and culture. People feel differently about globalization: some think it helps everyone while others think it hurts some people or the earth. When most people talk about globalization, they usually mean changes in the economy that happen because of free trade and technology. In the late 20th century, many countries agreed to lower tariffs, or taxes on goods that are imported from other countries. The Internet and other communication technologies also made it easy for people to buy and sell products to people around the world. Economic globalization Globalization lets countries move closer to each other. People, companies and organizations in different countries can live and work together. We can exchange goods , money and ideas faster and cheaper than ever before. Modern communication and technology, like the Internet, cell phones or satellite TV help us in our daily lives. For example. A German company can produce cars in Argentina and then sell them in the United States Advantages: Globalization gives you a larger market. You can sell more goods and make more money. Consumers also profit from globalization. Products become cheaper and you can get new goods more quickly. Disadvantages: Globalization may lead to more environmental problems. A company want to build factories in other countries because the environmental laws are not as strict as they are at home Some of the poorest countries in the world, especially in Africa, may get even poorer. Their population is not as educated as in developed countries and they don’t have the new technology that we have. Many experts say that we need a different kind of globalization in our world today. There must be ways to make sure that all countries profit from the good sides of globalization. Every year, leaders of the world’s biggest industrial countries get together to discuss economic problems. This meeting is called the G8 summit. In the last few years groups against globalization have organized protest marches and demonstrations to point out that not everyone is happy with how the world’s economy is developing. Political globalization There are political problems, which arise because of the limited national opputinites. These problems can be solved with a good cooperation. There are following fields: Economy: the states are getting in competition. so they could get to enemies. One good example is the model of Scandinavia – they work together in the labor market to increase the unemployment rate nature: a higher globalization means also a high air pollution. A state can’t solve environment problems alone. security politic: chiefs often come from different states and without the cooperation with others states, it is very hard to catch someone. But political globalization is also good; one example is to promote the integration. There are some international organizations for example European Union or the World Bank.
