Lesson 1

Learners will write a brief reflection and include an illustration of what they learned today, share with a 5 partner and report out to the class

Students will research the Internet to find 5 more reasons to study Spanish and be ready to persuade others to take

Spanish

Students will be encouraged to use their higher order thinking skills by answering the last question on the

Por qué aprender español guide

The Internet guide: Explain how knowing Spanish can heighten cultural perspectives, travel experiences, employment opportunities and other aspects of life.

What are my areas of strength? What are my areas of growth? Did I model enough? Did I make expectations clear? How do I know if students achieved the learning objectives?

The effectiveness of student learning will be evaluated by listening to the pair share activities and group discussions. Also, I will be reading their responses on their guide and google form.

The quantitative and qualitative descriptions of effectiveness will be evaluated on how clearly they thought, discussed, wrote and presented the 3 benefits of being bilingual and the 3 reasons for studying Spanish.

The quantitative descriptions of effectiveness will also be measured by how well they completed the Por qué aprender español guide.

The qualitative description of effectiveness will be evaluated on their engagement and participation in all the activities, were they on task in pairs and in group discussions, did their end of day reflection demonstrate achievement of objectives and how well did they answer the open-ended critical thinking question.

The results of the student learning and effectiveness will serve as a road map to the next lesson; based upon their engagement, behavior, responses, discussions, questions, comments and homework, I will either continue with another lesson about the importance of learning Spanish, expose them to all the countries where Spanish is spoken, give them examples of great life opportunities when one learns Spanish, etc. Student feedback will be provided immediately, both verbal and written.

For those who wish to delve deeper into this topic I will steer them in the right direction for further enrichment.

For those who might need more practice I will talk to them one on one and let them know I will be available to help them before or after school or at lunch and also provide them with some Internet resources.

Ms. Reyes Lesson 1

* Remember that the maximum attention span of the learner is approximately the age of the learner up to 20 minutes. The initial lesson cycle (gain attention/activate prior knowledge, provide input and elicit performance/provide feedback) should not take more than 20 minutes. The second cycle

(provide input and elicit performance/provide feedback) should be repeated as needed and will vary depending on the length of the class period.
