UNIVERSITY OF BELIZE QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE DRAFT MISSION, VISION AND VALUE STATEMENTS MISSION UB Quality (UBQ) aims to improve institutional capacity to deliver on the academic mission and vision of the university consistent with standards of quality. UBQ’s primary focus is on the quality of its graduates with the knowledge, competencies and values to become productive citizens of the world. The unit pays keen attention to the efficient use of human and other resources, knowledge, skills and technology to promote the teaching/learning, service and research functions of the institution. To achieve its mission UBQ uses modes of continuous planning, delivery and evaluation instruments to institutionalize a culture of quality. The unit works with a representative cross section of the university community in consultation with its stakeholders to formulate, monitor and evaluate internal standards of quality premised on national, regional and extra-regional benchmarks. VISION In the next five years, UBQ will work methodically and systematically to plan and implement the structures, mechanisms, systems and interventions needed to prepare UB first for institutional and subsequently or simultaneously for academic program accreditation premised on standards comparable to those in the region and beyond. VALUES Statement of UBQ Values: We strive to support the achievement of the institution’s mission. We strive for excellence as a condition of fitness for purpose at any given time or space. We believe that each member of the university community has a role and function with corresponding authority and responsibility to contribute towards the development of a UB quality culture. We maximize our achievements when the personal drive of each member of the university community finds common cause with the university mission. We thrive in a work environment that is purpose driven, trusting and appreciative of the diverse contributions of its constituents that aim for the achievement of the university mission. Planning, monitoring and evaluation as cogs in a continuous cycle are indispensable tools for the development of a UB quality culture. Time is an extremely important commodity that should be invested wisely to return good value. We believe in the principles of accountability, transparency, merit, equity, due process and academic freedom. (21 May 2010)
