Leadership Development Program Character Education & Leadership Development Speaker Series Retired State Supreme Court Justice Joe Gerace, Sr. The Importance of Credibility, February 12, 2 pm – S104 (Williams Center) Judge Gerace served in the U.S. Navy before completing his undergraduate studies at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He went on to graduate from Albany Law School in 1952 and was admitted to practice that same year. He practiced law for 22 years, held various public positions and served for 15 years as the first county executive of Chautauqua County. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1991. Judge Gerace retired as a Supreme Court Justice in 2003. Leadership Development Program Graduate Jeff Majka The Path of a Leadership Graduate, March 12, 2 pm – S120 (Williams Center) Mr. Majka graduated from Fredonia in 2002. He completed all requirements for the Leadership Development Program and also serves on the Leadership Studies Minor Advisory Committee at SUNY Fredonia. He is employed at M & T Bank as a Treasury Manager. Mr. Majka will discuss how the skills he developed in the Leadership program are now being applied in his current profession. Speaker Larry Mietus Ethics and Leadership, April 9, 5:30 – 9:30 pm – S104 (Partnership with Chautauqua Leadership Network) • This session is only open to leadership students (Williams Center) Larry Mietus is a Leadership Development Specialist, consultant and speaker with Murak & Associates, LLC. His clients include Delaware North Companies, Inc., New York State Town Clerk's Association, New York Statewide Payroll Conference, National Association of Speech and Hearing Centers, AAA of Western & Central New York, Buffalo Niagara Partnership's Compelling Place to Work Program, International Association of Administrative Professionals and several other organizations. Founder of SUNY Fredonia’s Leadership Development Program Jim Sturm The History of the Leadership Development Program, April 15, 5:30 pm - S104 (Williams Center) Mr. Sturm is a 1988 graduate of SUNY Fredonia and has been designing and presenting leadership programs and workshops for the past 20 years. Jim serves as the Vice President for Student Life at Hilbert College where he is also an adjunct assistant professor teaching courses in leadership. Previously he has been the Director of Student Leadership Development Programs at East Carolina University and the Assistant Director for Campus Life at SUNY Fredonia.
