These courses are designed to explore topics more in depth using the new common core standards. Students will seek greater understanding, examine their thinking, and explain their thoughts in addition to just getting an answer. Prerequisites: The prerequisite of this course is to be in 9th grade. Textbook(s): Integrated CME project: Mathematics 1 , book website is www.successnetplus.com Supplies/Materials Needed: A scientific or graphing calculator will simplify problem solving for you and help your understanding. Calculators are available in the library for check out. You may wish to acquire a Casio FX-115ES calculator. It is an excellent, powerful, superior, and lower cost scientific calculator. It is available at most stores and is available online at http://www.shopcasio.com/product/27823. Also, a notebook for Math ONLY is highly advantageous. A graph paper notebook is also helpful; so is a pencil and eraser. Bring your notebook to class every day. Academic Honesty Policy: All students are expected to abide by the Mira Mesa High School Academic Honesty Policy which is clearly outlined in the Student & Parent Handbook as well as posted online with school registration forms for students and parents to review. Class Rules and Consequences: No eating or drinking (except water) In seat at bell prepared to work. Head up, backpack under desk. Improper of cell phones such as texting, playing games, youtube, etc.. will result in the item being confiscated and returned after school or turned in to the office. THIS IS YOUR WARNING! No further warnings! Parents: please don't text your son/daughter during class! Phones may be used for academic use such as taking pictures of notes, assignments, using the e-book, etc... Failure to follow rules may result in detention, calls home, or referrals. Dress respectfully and you won't be asked to change. Tardies and bathroom passes are both considered missing class time. Missing class time will result in 1 assignment being deducted. However, serving your missed class time at lunch or after school within 2 days will restore your assignment and clear your tardy or bathroom pass. Good News! Everybody starts the semester with 4 free bonus assignments. Thus, I will deduct from your bonus first. For example, Joe uses the bathroom only once during the semester and has 1 tardy. He still has 4 -2 = 2 bonus assignment points awarded to him. Good job Joe. Betty used the bathroom twice and had 1 tardy; however, Betty cleared her 3 out of class times. Thus, Betty still gets all 4 bonus assignments added to her grade. Great job Betty! Page 1 of 4 Academic Grading Policy: Grades are a weighted average of 80% tests and quizzes, 20% homework and assignments. The grading scale is standard: A (4.0) 90% and above B (3.0) 80 – 89% C (2.0) 70 – 79% D (1.0) 60 - 69% F (0.0) Below 60%, no credit There is no rounding up! Almost every day there is an assignment. Complete your homework assignments in your math notebook. Any worksheets are placed in the tray by the due date. If it is turned in late (after I empty the tray), you will receive only ½ credit. If it is turned in after I have handed back the assignment, it is very late and receives no credit. There is no make-up work or very late work accepted. Only students with an excused absence may have extra time to complete work. There will be a variety of quizzes and a test or two every chapter. Students with excused absences will take their missed quiz/test the day they return to class. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for the missed quiz or test. Some test have no retakes, make-ups, do-overs, 2nd tries, etc… While "Competency Tests" and "Skill Quizzes" need to be repeated until passed. Each semester will have a final exam that counts as 2 tests. Cheating or copying will result in an automatic zero and no make-ups or retakes. Cheating students may be seated apart from the class and/or taking a different test than the rest of the class for the rest of the year. There are also bonus class participation points. You may get negative points if you choose to be a loser. Make-up/Late Policy: There is no make-up work or late work accepted.
