BASIC FUNCTION

The Counseling Center Director provides leadership and management of the Counseling Center to ensure professional, responsive, and effective psychological counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach services for students. The Director ensures Counseling Center’s policies, procedures and services are consistent with the goal of the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and the standards of the profession.

NATURE & SCOPE

The Counseling Center Director establishes and monitors the scope and direction of the Center; provides vision and leadership to ensure operations are consistent with national standards of practice. The Center Director oversees hiring, training, and work performance of a staff of licensed/master level counselors, interns and support staff; serves as a member of the Threat Assessment Team; works collaboratively with the Director of Student Development, Dean of

Students office, Campus Police, Student Life, Residence Life and other campus offices and services to ensure coordinated response care. The Counseling Center Director networks with campus professionals and in the community to provide informed and coordinated services to students.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 Oversee the provision of time-efficient, culturally-informed individual and group counseling and related services through training, consultation, supervision and evaluation of the activities of the Counseling Center’s clinical professionals and trainees.

 Ensure maximum utilization of Counseling Center resources by monitoring clinical activities of the Counseling

Center’s professional and trainee staff; establish coordinated and comprehensive services to students on campus.

 Plan, implement, and analyze data on students’ psychological development, needs, and concerns, and the efficacy of services provided by the Center.

 Serve as the Counseling Center’s FERPA officer; review all Counseling Center documents requested for release to ensure records are only released consistent with state and national laws as well as professional ethics.

Ensure all clinical documents are created consistent with professional standards and securely stored.

 Provide the Director of Student Development an annual evaluation and summary of Counseling Center operations, services, and outcomes, as well as strategies and recommendations for addressing service demands and student mental health needs; assist with budget development and strategic planning.

 Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings; provide for staff professional development through training opportunities, workshops, and professional resources; provide support and direction for administrative areas.

 Establish policies and procedures for Center operations and communicate clearly with Counseling Center staff recording policies, operations, scope of service, and standards of practice.

 Serve as senior consultant to staff and trainees; serve as clinical supervisor to interns and unlicensed staff.

 Provide culturally informed clinical assessments (including diagnosis) as needed.

Position Description – Director University Counseling Center

 Ensure staff is trained to provide prompt, organized and competent crisis response; shares duties for evening and weekend on-call back-up to after-hours services.

 Maintain availability to respond to calls from students’ families, faculty, and friends; ensure appropriate response to situations.

 Maintain license in good standing; present at conferences and submit scholarly work for publication.

 Contribute to the University community by serving on committees, program involvement, outreach, or other campus-wide activities.

 Network with professionals on campus and in the community to provide informed and coordinated services to students.

 Handle stressful situations with sound judgment, maintain positive attitude, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students; maintain confidentiality of student files and information.

 Participate in seminars and workshops as budget and schedules allow to enhance professional development.

 Present at conferences and submit scholarly work for publication.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Graduate of an accredited masters counseling, social work or related program; demonstrated experience with outreach to and working with multi-cultural, LGBTQ, veterans and other diverse populations. Current or active LCSW/LPC in the state of Georgia at the time of application; certification as an addiction counselor will be an asset; experience providing individual, group counseling and crisis services. Experience providing clinical supervision to staff and interns; at least 3 years of experience in administrative role(s). Experience in personnel management of clinical and support staff; strong leadership skills; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively with professional staff and colleagues, and effectively formulate and execute informed administrative and clinical decisions.
