SAMPLE ALUMNI LETTER Garamond 11 Pt. Font 5349 Marina Drive, #5 Mt. Horeb, NC 53492 July 31, 2009 Mr. Jonathan Hart Director, Business Support Services University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 500 N. Fremont Street Green Bay, WI 55487 Dear Mr. Hart: Please consider this letter my application for the Student Legal Services Counseling position with the University. I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and have multiple experiences counseling clients in a variety of legal matters, including criminal misdemeanors. As a solo practitioner, I routinely counsel businesses on compliance issues and have assisted a local nonprofit on choice of legal entity and non-profit status issues. I am also very comfortable dealing with students and listening to their concerns because currently, I work as a Career Services Advisor at the University of North Carolina counseling students on their job searches. In this role, I interview students to identify their career goals and guide them as they identify job prospects and networking opportunities. My additional counseling experience includes work at a Domestic Violence Clinic assisting victims to become self sufficient as they restart their lives. As a student attorney interning for the Public Defender, I defended clients charged with Disorderly Conduct, Bail Jumping, Driving While Revoked, and Drug Possession crimes. In this role, I was responsible for determining the client’s legal options, assessing the strength of the case, and advising the client whether to accept a plea agreement or to go to trial. In addition, I negotiated plea agreements with the District Attorneys. One negotiation resulted in the dismissal of a Disorderly Conduct charge against a client. My exposure to a variety of legal issues, coupled with student counseling experience, makes me very qualified for this position. I am able to make students comfortable, a necessary step to establishing open communication. I am also able to listen for the right details in order to have a comprehensive view of the problem. Lastly, I have experience providing solutions to many different legal problems. I look forward to using these skills and experiences to help your students. Attached please find a copy of my resume. If you need any other information, please contact me via email at macgyver@uwalumni.com or via telephone at 608-752-9810. I look forward to hearing from you. Truly, Dean Anderson Dean Anderson Enclosure
